From a business standpoint, the UFCs first trip to Germany will clearly fall short of their success in the UK. From poor ticket sales to a downright hostile German media, its been one headache after another for Dana White and company. The UFC 99 card itself turned out to be an entertaining affair highlighted by a spectacular main event between Rich Franklin and Wanderlei Silva. Franklin would ultimately win the unanimous decision victory, but the fight itself far exceeded the expectations of most fans.

For the most part, Franklin picked Silva apart throughout the course of the fight (to quote UFC color commentator Joe Rogan) and deserved the unanimous decision verdict. What made the fight exceptional were the occasional glimpses of the old Axe Murderer. Late in the second and third rounds, Silva tagged Franklin with hard punches that left him clearly stunned.

In the co-main event, heavyweight phenom Cain Velasquez survived a few nervous moments to put in a wall to wall domination of Cheick Kongo. Velasquez was rocked by Kongos punches early in rounds one and two, but quickly recovered to take the fight to the ground where he mauled the Frenchman. The result was an impressive victory for Velasquez over a top level opponent, but his struggles against Kongos standup game left several unanswered questions. The most compelling concern, of course, is that Velesquez might have a weak chin and simply not be able to take a punch particularly well. His problems could also be tactical or simply a case of not having enough patience”rushing his takedown attempts and eating punches rather than work for a less risky opportunity.

The event also featured the UFC return of former PRIDE open weight GP champion Mirko Cro Cop. Cro Cop was making his return to action from knee surgery, and the Croatian striking machine got off to a slow start against overmatched Mostapha Al-Turk as he clearly sought to protect his rebuilt wheels. Of particular note was the fact that Cro Cop didnt throw a kick the entire fight”his bread and butter during his PRIDE dominance, which evoked the mantra right leg hospital, left leg cemetery. Once he let his hands go, however, he demonstrated emphatically that hes still got serious power. He ended the fight late in the first round by flooring Al-Turk with an overhand left followed up with some hammer fists on the ground.

Perennial contender Mike Swick looked impressive as he defeated Ben Saunders via 2nd round TKO. After an uneventful first five minutes, Swick let his hands go and his impressive handspeed proved no match for his adversary. In the opening match of the live PPV, Dan Hardy won a hard fought split decision over Marcus Davis. The two men had feuded back and forth in the UK media, and while the fight may not have settled their differences in a decisive manner it did provide a solid opener to the evenings fight card.

Very few people leave home for vacation without taking their camera. This is probably the time when the camera gets used the most often. It just seems to be the trend to take pictures of everything when one is on vacation. Of course, the real purpose is to capture the memories to have as a memento of a great time. Then you get home and find out that half of your photos did not turn out and this is a big disappointment. It is not likely that you can just return and retake the picture.

You can avoid a lot of disappointment if you follow through on a few tips to lessen the danger of unusable photos.

Do not make the mistake of buying a new camera to go on vacation with and then try to use it before you have read your manual and better still practiced with it a bit. You may be surprised to find out what special features your camera has. These may come in handy on your trip photos.

It is easy to be caught up in the moment when having a good time. Cameras are so compact now, then to be set down and forgotten about. Be careful of this when away. Try to make sure you have an object in your scenery pictures as it creates interest. Take free form pictures rather than planned ones where you have the subjects all lined up in front of a point of interest.

Naturally, you want to get as much of your subject to fill the picture as possible. Make sure you pay attention to the background. You may get a great picture of the subject in a horrid background. Look for interesting subjects to take pictures of, use your imagination but do not take photos of individuals without their permission.

It is not only important for a successful hairstylist to learn as many hair cutting techniques as possible, but they must also keep themselves skilled and up to date with the requirements of the hair cuts as many of the hairstyles are dependant on the cut. One very important technique for cutting hair is the slide cutting. Its primary purpose is to remove the excess bulk to the hair without losing the cutting line. This is not to be misconstrued as slicing or feathering. You finished product should be a look of softness and the hair should have a natural movement but still be used within a structured cut.

Slide cutting is versatile when it comes to hair types. It works perfectly for those clients with medium to coarse hair. Then on the other hand for those clients that have lots of hair but it is fine and has the appearance of being fragile then the slide cutting can be used to give it some lift and proper movement, or controlled movement rather than the flyaway look that often comes with this type of hair.

The first two things you must ensure are that your scissors are not dull and that you do not wet the hair. As you are most probably aware, wet hair has less bulk. It is always an ideal situation when you can visualize your results and by using this technique on dry hair, you can readily see this. One of the problems you may find you are having is that the scissors are catching the hair and as a result, your cuts are too deep. This is simply rectified by not opening the scissors too far. In fact, they should only be opened to a maximum of one third. If you do this then you will put an end to your problem. This will allow you to perform smooth strokes when you are cutting as it gives you the perfect angle. When you have the hair shaft held properly then adjust your angle so the blades of your scissors at approx 30 degrees in relation to the hair shaft. Be constantly aware that you must not cut into the base line or you will have an inferior finish and don?t start too close to the scalp.

Two major components are going to lead you to be highly successful with this technique. That is the willingness to practice, and the decision to invest in the correct scissors for the job. Inferior scissors will lead to an inferior job no matter how great your cutting skills are.

The ultimate scissors should have a full convex blade and you should not be able to see a separate edge, which means it, must be high precision scissors. You can easily identify these types of scissors by their fine edges. This is what allows you to be successful with the open blade techniques you are required to perform. They are precisioned for soft cutting. Many stylists attempt to use medium precision scissors for this technique but find they do not slide well. A good pair of precision scissors is certainly not cheap ranging between $400-$600. There is no need to remind you that an investment as costly as this needs constant protection against damage.

Allen Iverson is one of the most high profile NBA free agents left on the market, though his future plans may be soon be determined. On Wednesday, Iverson sent a Twitter update indicating that the Memphis Grizzlies had made him an offer.

Iverson had received the most interest from the Charlotte Bobcats and Miami Heat. Both teams have a lot of upside for ‘The Answer’-the Bobcats are coached by his Larry Brown, whom Iverson played for in Philadelphia. Miami would likely use Iverson in a reserve role-while he bristled at that assignment in Detroit, he’s suggested that he’d be more receptive to it on a contending team.

From a financial standpoint, however, there are problems with both Miami and Charlotte. The Heat is already over the salary cap, and simply doesn’t have the personnel budget to pay Iverson what he could demand elsewhere. Charlotte, meanwhile, is up for sale and would be able to offer Iverson a short term deal with the prospect for renegotiation later, but that may not be something he’s interested in.

Memphis, meanwhile, has $3.5 million dollars of free space under the salary cap. They could easily outbid either Miami or Charlotte, and would also make Iverson the focal point of the team. GM Wallace confirmed that they’d made a formal offer to “AI”:

“We’re heading into the home stretch before the season, and we have had interest in Allen all summer. We’ve been in touch on a fairly consistent basis and had dialogue with his agent, Leon Rose, since the beginning of free agency. We’ll probably add another guard at some point, but we don’t need to rush to do it.”

The enigmatic Iverson appeared in only 57 games for the Nuggets and Pistons due to injury and averaged a career-low 17.5 points per game. Despite his many issues, no one has ever questioned his talented, toughness or work ethic when the game starts. Iverson remains one of the most potent scoring threats in the sport and his willingness to play through injuries that would land most NBA players on the disabled list has made him a fan favorite.
