This is a critical time in Andy Roddick’s tennis career as he prepares for the upcoming US Open.

On one hand, he has seen the rebirth of his talents, leading him to arguably his best season in a while thanks to being as fit as he was when he won his only major in 2003.

At the same time, Roddick is aging and the clock is ticking on his career. His role in men’s tennis is crucial right now, as he’s really the only player who stands a chance to bring the US its first grand slam since Roddick captured the championship in 2003.

When looking at the rest of the top-5 players, aside from Roger Federer, they’re all at least three years younger than Roddick. There’s a good chance that each of these players will maintain his level of play, and quite possibly improve. With respect to Federer, it seems that he’s found his form once again.

The writing is on the wall for Andy Roddick. He was literally inches away from overcoming one of his obstacles in the 2009 Wimbledon final against Roger Federer, but that must be forgotten as he looks to make a solid run at the two hard court slams and of course on grass at Wimbledon.

Realistically, he might only have seven legitimate chances left in his career. By the end of 2011, he’ll be on the verge of 30 years old, which might as well be 60 in tennis years.

Wimbledon was a perfect showcase of Roddick’s talents. With one of the best serves in the game and some impressive ground strokes, a fit Andy Roddick could stick around as one of the world’s elite players for quite some time if he keeps up this level of fitness.

Plenty of people think the number 13 is somehow unfortunate. There are those who develop a fear of the number 13 that goes way beyond simple superstition. There’s even a name for this fear ( phobia ). It is known as paraskevidekatriaphobia, or friggatriskaidekaphobia. ( I am NOT fooling. ) specifically, these phobias relate to a fear of friday the 13th but do encompass other fears related to the number 13. These fears are far more common than you could expect.

Some trace the concept that the number 13 is unfortunate back to the Last dinner. Judas Iscariot ( who betrayed Jesus ) was the 13th person to sit down at the table of the Last dinner.
