Cairo is the capital and largest city of Egypt. It is also an exotic mix of sights, sounds and smells you will never forget. A Cairo holiday is one of those things that every human being on earth should try to do at least once in his/her lifetime.
The first stop on most people’s Cairo itinerary is undoubtedly the Egyptian Museum where you can visit one of Egypt’s most famous names King Tut. This is the best place to see all the riches and treasures that were entombed with the well known pharaoh along with other Egyptian kings. All the flair and vibrancy that you associate with Cairo can be found here along with unique souvenirs. Located in the center of Islamic Cairo this area has changed little since the middle ages this is the place for perfumes, spices, and ornate jewelry.
The Citadel in Cairo is another must see tourist spot. It was constructed in the 12th century and you can now wander through it gazing on historically important stone buildings and take in a terrific panoramic view of Cairo. Near the old northern gates of the city is one of Cairo’s most revered religious sites, the Mosque of Sayyidna al-Hussein. Wandering around this area is like stepping back in time.
Other sights include the 187m tall Cairo tower, and the area called Old Cairo, which includes Coptic Cairo with many Coptic churches and synagogues. As befits a city of this size, modern Cairo also offers glitzy shopping malls, a clean efficient underground system, and some of the best restaurants and hotels in the world.
Many people enjoy the vibe of Cairo as the Egyptian life is considered to be very relaxed. You can negotiate anything and nothing is urgent. They have real social networks that don’t occur on the computer but face to face. There are some great places to have coffee and just watch life unfold before you.
