Sudden Fear: A new twist about a boy who cried wolf too often. A prankish kid witnesses the murder of a visiting dignitary. The problem is that no one will believe him. Cast includes Lionel Jeffues, Susan George, Tony Bonner, and Jeremy Kemp. (95 minutes, 1970)
Heartburn: Nora Ephron adjusted her own most popular (and autobiographical) novel in regards to an elderly couple whose matrimony appears just fine till she sees he’s been cheating when she’s pregnant! Lightweight, shallow tale is supercharged by 2 charismatic megastars, which make it a must see. Cast includes Meryl Streep, Jack Nicholson: Jeff Daniels, Maureen Stapleton, Stockard Channing, Richard Masur, Catherine O’Hara, Steven Hill, Milos Forman, Karen Akers, Anna Maria Horsford, Mercedes Ruehl, Joanna Gleason, Yakov Smimoff, Kevin Spacey, and Natasha Lyonne. (108 minutes, 1986)
Blind Faith: 2 brothers, one a patrol man and the other a defense attorney, find their relation and their own sense of self esteem as black gentlemen in 1950s. America is turned upside down when the patrol man?s child is implicated in a murder. A tough and striking drama, which opens in the late ’80s, concentrates on the racial problems and an unfair system of justice. Cast includes Courtney B. Vanee, Charles S. Dutton, Kadeem Hardison, Lonette McKee, and Garland Whitt. (107 minutes, 1998)
The Pleasure Garden: Hitchcock’s first work, shot in Munich, is a choppy account of a pair of chorus gals, one sugary and knowing, the other a waif. They eventually both become involved with the same man. Cast includes Virginia Valli, Carmelita Geraghty, Miles Mander, Jolm Stuart, and George Snell. (68 minutes, 1935)
Hail Mafia: Somewhat fascinating melodrama in regards to employed killers going after a witness that has witnessed mob activities. Cast includes Henry Silva, Jack Klugman, Eddie Constantine, Elsa Martinelli, and Micheline Presle. (89 minutes, 1965)
The Fog: A thick haze from the Pacific hangs over a Northwest seaside village, bringing with it murderous and vengeful ghosts. A lame redo of John Carpenter’s 1980 film modifies the structure but does not improve on the first edition. Cast includes Tom Welling, Maggie Grace, Selma Blair, DeRay Davis, Kenneth Welsh, Adrian Hough, Sara Botsford, and Rade Sherbedgia. (100 minutes, 2005)
Commandos: Stereotype-filled war drama with typical structure; Italian commandos, led by a few stalwart Americans, need to secure a vital retreat in the North African desert before Allied landings. Cast includes Lee Van Cleef, Jack Kelly, Giampiero Albertini, Marino Marie, Pierre Paulo Capponi, and Duilio Del Prete. (89 minutes, 1964)
The Singing: Nun: This is sappy comic book stuff based on an actual Belgian nun whose dedication is split between her religious efforts and making hit records. Cast includes Debbie Reynolds, Ricardo Montalban, Greer Garson, Agnes Moorehead, Chad Everett, Katharine Ross, Ed Sullivan, Juanita Moore, and Tom Drake. (98 minutes, 1966)
Bullet for a Badman: Another revenge story about an outlaw, his ex-spouse, and the man who married her. Cast includes Audie Murphy, Darren McGavin, Ruta Lee, Bypass Homeier, George Tobias, and Bob Steele. (80 minutes, 1964)
