The walking foot gets it’s name because it actually walks the top layer of fabric along with the bottom keeping it even.

Velvet”s pile makes it incredibly difficult to sew without shifting layers.Reducing presser foot pressure will reduce press marks and sewing in the direction of the pile when joining seams will help.

The walking even foot is great with materials that have sticky surfaces, i.e. imitation suede, leather imitations and vinyl. The moving part of the foot will prevent the material from sticking to the underneath of the foot, thus both layers will fed at the same rate.

Stretchy knits or thick knits can be handled with the walking even dual feed foot.
