You will also have a smaller salad fork. Over the dinner plate, there will be a dessert spoon and dessert fork. Knives and spoons are placed at the right side of the plate. Forks are placed to the left of the plate. Glasses are placed to the right of the dinner plate. Napkins are to be placed on the lap.

3. Table Etiquette: It is important to greet your host by shaking hands. Do not put your elbows on the table. Sit up straight. Always use utensils when eating, and not your hands. Do not start eating until everyone at the table has been served. Always pass items to the right. Eat at the same rate as your guests. Do not pick up food with your hands. Do not chew food with your mouth open or talk with a mouth full of food. Chew small morsels. Don’t talk with your mouth full. Don’t speak so loudly that you annoy other patrons. Compliment the host on the flavor and appearance of the meal. Do not put too much food in your mouth as you will end up chewing with your mouth open. Do not dip food in other liquids such as soup or broths. When finished, keep the plate on your setting and wait for the server to take it away. Do not talk on a cell phone while dining.

4. Restaurant Host/Hostess: Treat restaurant staff with respect. Leave a tip of at least 15%. Do not treat a restaurant host harshly. Be courteous and enjoy how well you are treated. If there is a mistake with the meal, do not get angry and cause a scene. Explain the problem and the host will take care of it.

Nowadays, there are more than one definitions for art and what it means for many kinds of people. Art can vary from sculptures to movies and from paintings to quilts. With so many different kinds of art, one would think that it would be difficult to steer through art show with such prestigious art and what it all means. Art shows are generally very open, but the art shows that hold a lot of possible talent are the ones that many people like to visit. Art can range from many different things but there is a way to narrow down what you are involved in based on your personal interests. Whether you have any likes in photography or painting or even wireworks it is all up to you. If you take just about any passage of music in the violin repertoire and gather 5 players to play it, chances are you will see 5 different fingerings being used.

This may not be the case, however, if those 5 players came from the studio of one teacher.

Now, I consider that I have had four main teachers in my life.

What is interesting is that two of them tended to have specific fingerings for any given passage, and sought to adjust my technique to accommodate them.

The other two took a very different tack.

In high school I studied with a very gifted Italian violinist by the name of Guido Mansuino. He felt, if you couldn’t play a passage with a given fingering after three honest attempts, it was time to find another way.

Milstein was much the same way.

In the interim, however, I spent three years with Eudice Shapiro at the USC School of Music. Now Shapiro was a truly extraordinary violinist, one of the finest of the 20th century, in fact. Yet I would still place her firmly in the school of ‘adaptive technique’, where fingerings were concerned.

And I must admit to having chaffed at the bit on this point whilst under her guidance.

It was only when I arrived at Milstein’s door that I again began to feel the excitement of musical exploration, of personal innovation.

As it happens, fingerings were a big part of this agenda.

He himself was constantly looking for new and innovative ways of doing things – often playing different fingerings in successive performances. Milstein was unrivaled in his ability to pull this off.

In short order I found myself investigating three, four, or more ways of fingering a passage before coming to one that allowed for the right musical impact as well as a fluid, facile execution for my hand.

It sure fired my imagination to do so.

Admittedly, there are times when your fingering options are limited, and you really must rely solely on technique to get the job done.

Yet this is far more rare than most violinists realize.

So if you run into a problem playing a passage, stand back and take a fresh look at those fingerings. Chances are, with a little investment of time, you’ll surprise and delight yourself with a much more effective way of playing a passage that seemed impossible seconds before.

And you’ll actually be SAVING time and effort in the bargain.

For those of you thinking about up grading your aging CRT TV with an HDTV, I want to simplify the process for you. Stick with a major player like LG and take a look at the LG 32LH30 LCD. Priced just under $500, it will compete with units priced much higher. Let me clarify that, you will not find any significant difference between one costing up to $1000 when compared the 32LH30.

HD means high density. It’s buzz word that is almost meaningless now days because it’s nearly impossible to purchase anything but an HDTV. Basically, when you watch anything that is produced in HD on an HDTV, you will have the clearest and sharpest image ever seen. Video gamers and nature buffs alike go crazy over the clarity of the on screen image. But I must warn you, once you go HD, you can never go back. It’s just not the same.

Many people are buying HDTV’s because they offer a smaller foot print than older analog models. Most LCD TV’s are a quarter as deep as the old CRT TV, and weigh about a fifth! A word of caution here-just because it takes up less room, don’t be tempted to break the bank and replace that old analog CRT with the biggest unit that you can find. Additionally, the width and height are smaller too because the case surrounding the is practically non-existent.

The picture adjusting controls of the LG 32LH30 LCD are much better than competing models. The added Picture Wizard makes use of internal test patterns to help the user perform general calibrations the controls for sharpness, brightness, contrast, color, tint, vertical and horizontal sharpness, and back light.

Connectivity is very ample on the 32LH30 LCD. There are two HDMI ports, a component-video input, an AV input with composite video, a RF input for antenna or cable, an RGB-style analog PC input, and an optical digital audio output located on the back panel. Located on the the left side is a third HDMI input as well as a second AV input with composite video.
