Stag Party Organisation

by Mariko Conisuellian

For any groom-to-be, a stag party is one of the most memorable events of their lives. This is however, dependant on careful planning and preparation to avoid anything going wrong and to ensure that everything runs smoothly. Traditionally, the stag party is organised by someone close to the groom, i.e. a brother, a cousin or a group of his closest friends. This is to ensure that the activities chosen will be what the groom would have wanted to do given the choice.

Recent stag party ideas have transformed the age old conventional ideas of stag parties just being about drinking gallons of beer and dancing until you fall on the floor, nowadays the concept of stag parties has changed such that people now are opting for stag weekends to provide for more entertainment and pleasure. You can now arrange for outdoor stag parties and indulge in sporty events like golf, tennis, basketball or just hang out by a lake near a resort and do some fishing!

Some other stag party ideas that would really stand out as memorable for the groom are arranging a BBQ by the riverside on a moonlit night with his best friends or you could simply organize a game of poker.

There are obviously many other options of what you can do on a stag party weekend, in fact, the options are more or less limitless, but some ideas for you are camping, river rafting, gliding, climbing and hiking and adventure sports such as bungee jumping, snowboarding, skiing, skydiving, parasailing and many more depending on the groom’s interests and preferences.

Ideally stag party organization is no big deal as there are venues that can plan out the entire event for you depending on what the bachelor wants to do. You can also make stag party organization exclusive and challenging by arranging for go karting, quad biking, off road karting, clay shooting as well as target shooting activities where you can test the mettle of the groom. There are so many great ideas available for stag parties and all you need to do is to pick your choice!

Tips On Making A Homemade Hydroponics System

by James Morley

Make Your Own Homemade Hydroponics System

It used to be that hydroponics were thought of as being something used by regular people far into the future, but that is not true anymore. Many of today’s home gardeners are using hydroponic systems in order to grow different plants and vegetables to supplement their grocery consumption on a regular basis. Hydroponic systems that are purchased ready made are usually very expensive. You can make your own Homemade Hydroponics System easy and inexpensively.

In a hydroponic system one grows plants with absolutely no soil at all. Plants are placed in what is called a medium that would not be considered soil and get nutrients from a liquid. Because there is no soil to deal with hydroponics is a clean system and you can grow plants year round. Creating your own system is very inexpensive and you will also save on the food bill because you are growing some of your own food even in the winter.

One easy method of hydroponics is referred to as the Wick Method. Here liquid with nutrients is sucked up by nylon rope into the pots of the plants that have been inserted into a planting medium. You do not need much to achieve this method and nothing costs much money.

Make your own hydroponic system by starting with one black or dark blue plastic storage tub. You need a dark color to stop algae from growing in the liquid solution. Algae needs sunlight to grow and a dark container does not let it even get started. Also purchase a storage tub of the same relative size that will fit inside the dark one. In this tub you will place the pots your plants grow in. It can be the same color or any other color you wish. You need to purchase a few yards of half inch rope made from nylon. Also needed is an aquarium air pump that will keep your solution oxygenated. Get pots that fit into the one tub. These will be filled with a growing medium and the best used are pebbles made of clay that will absorb the solution and keep it for awhile or you can use equal amounts of vermiculite and perlite. You will never be able to duplicate the rays of the sun indoors so be sure to get some grow lights.

In each pot put a length of the roping in through the hole in the bottom before putting the plant in it. Start filling the pot with the medium but hold the rope up so it comes up around the plant roots. The rope should dangle from the bottom of the pot to be immersed in the liquid solution in the other tub. Once the rope is in, place the plants into the medium. The tub that contains the plants needs to have half inch holes drilled directly under where the pots will be placed. Situate the pots in the container and pull the nylon rope through the hole so it hangs down into the solution once you place the tub in the dark colored tub. The air pump needs to go into the dark colored container immersed into the nutrient solution. Finally you will insert the tub with the plants into the darker colored tub.

You will have little care to deal with in the wick system. The only thing you must do is make sure there is an adequate supply of nutrient solution in the bottom tub. Check the same time every week or maybe two times a week. You will be able to bring that grocery bill down with all the vegetables you can grow during the winter.

Unique Wedding Venues For Less

by Stephanie McLain

Don’t get caught up in spending thousands of dollars on a wedding venue. Brides sometimes get tricked into believing it has to be expensive to look gorgeous. This is not the case. By saving money on the location of the wedding you will have extra money to spend in other areas of your wedding, including the dress, the cake, or the honeymoon.

A Friend Or Family Members Home

Do you know of a friend or family member with a wedding worthy home? This can be one of the most affordable locations to have your wedding. You can have the ceremony inside and a late evening reception by candlelight. Affordable, easy, and your friend will feel honored by you selecting their home for your big day.

A Quaint Country Church

Don’t bother trying to book a big city church if you are on a budget. Many times these churches can be as expensive as the ritzy wedding halls. Instead search out a small, but well maintained church or chapel. These churches are only a fraction of the price, but just as beautiful.

A Local Museum

Many couples do not know this, but museums will sometimes allow you to reserve part of the museum for your wedding. This is especially cheaper at smaller museums that are locally owned and operated. Call the local museums in your area to find out about the savings you can get.

The Forest

A small clearing in the forest is the perfect place for a ceremony for the adventurous couple. Tell everyone to bring their hiking boots and make an event out of it. Since the forest has beautiful scenery already you won’t have to spend too much on decorations.

On Top Of a Mountain

Why not gather your guests and your husband to be on a mountaintop. This is sure to make a lasting impression, it is unique, and will not be forgotten anytime soon. You can surround yourself with beautiful scenery and it is more affordable than you might think. Check with city hall if the land is owned by the city or with the land owner if it is privately owned property.

The Chinese-thinking Approach To Violin Playing

by Clayton Haslop

Recently I have been studying a very interesting strain of Chinese philosophy called Hwa-Yen. It is the philosophical basis of Zen.

In the process I have learned something about the way Asian language systems, Chinese in particular, conceptualize and label the forms we see in the world about us.

This morning I was reflecting on how I think while playing, and it struck me that my thinking about violin playing reflects this Chinese approach to language and conceptualization very closely.

I then had the thought that elucidating this essential difference between the Eastern and Western mind could shed some light on how the ‘complete’ violinist views violin technique.

You see, in Chinese the word for ‘train’ translates, literally, as ‘fire car,’ automobile as ‘gas car’, and bicycle as ‘foot-stepping car.’ In English, however, we have quite different and distinct words for each of these things; etymologically they are seemingly quite unrelated.

In the Chinese mind, then, the linguistic construction first identifies ‘train’ as something belonging to a group, in this case, a vehicle. This generalized term is then modified and given specificity by the addition of an adjective, in this case describing one requiring fire for operation – at least trains did in the old days.

So even from the way our language systems are constructed you can see that the Western mind tends to compartmentalize, to identify in a specific and definite way. The Eastern mind, on the other hand, seeks to generalize first, and then to differentiate; this thing is both like these AND, simultaneously, containing in something quite different.

Now let’s talk violin playing. Many violinists I have taught have wanted to ‘nail things down’ when they came to me; this is THE way the fingers of the left hand articulate, this time, every time.

And for such players it comes as a surprise that in one Kreutzer Etude I talk of fingers tapping the string, and in another of the combined four fingers as a constant motion machine; the former implying a digital type of articulation, the latter something quite analogue.

And, in fact, BOTH must be accomplished to reach the highest levels of performance.

The world of form IS full of contradictions and the message of music is, by definition, transmitted within this same world of form.

There is no escaping this.

Now, don’t get me wrong here. Because I say there are contradictions does not mean you surrender to chaos. There are, after all, ways of playing the violin that are more efficient, effective and conducive to getting the music across than others.

The point is, however, that your technique must be fluid, dynamic, and able to embrace and effortlessly expand through a great range of textures and expressions.

So there isn’t just one way to articulate with the fingers of the left hand. And there isn’t just one way to ‘take the string’ when initiating a tone.

The challenge of a violin system, however, is to provide for all these ‘contradictions’ within something of a generalized framework, otherwise you have hopeless confusion in place of a technique.

In short, you need a method of approaching the instrument that is BOTH superbly straight-forward and simple, AND supremely flexible and adaptive.

When we listen and watch a truly great player effortlessly moving through a vast range of expression we often can’t help but think, ‘and they make it look so simple.’ And so it has become, for them, and now for you.

Michael Jackson Thriller: The Person. The Music

by Jon Moreno

When people think of Michael Jackson Thriller a lot of things come to mind. Thriller was Jackson’s sixth album that he ever put out. This album was released worldwide in nineteen eighty two. This album came after his other famous album off the wall which came out in nineteen seventy nine.

Thriller is a lot like off the wall because it explores some of the same kind of music like R&B and pop. The production of thriller was one of the most exciting albums that Jackson ever put out and as of two thousand and seven it has sold a whopping sixty five million copies, just in that year.

Thriller made Jackson one of the most famous people in the twentieth century and this allowed him to break some barriers of racial people. Some of the reasons he was able to break the racial barrier that people held was because of his meeting with Ronald Regan at the White house. This album and song was one of the first to make famous the Use of Music videos to promote songs.

Thriller is a lot like the album off the wall because it follows genres like funk and disco. To describe thrillers lyrics I would have to say they are like experiencing paranoia and the supernatural.

Thriller was also preserved to the National Library of Congress and they deemed it “Culturally significant”. Jackson’s other album off the wall was a huge success but not as largely known as Thriller although it did receive favorable reviews just like thriller.

Between Jackson’s release of off the wall and Thriller he was going through many problems with his family. Jackson’s father began an affair with a woman that was twenty years his youth in nineteen seventy three, and this in turn resulted in a child. Then in nineteen eighty his father finally told his family about the child. Michael was already mad at his father over the child abuse that he had gone through. After all this Jackson still was able to produce the biggest selling album of all time, which he called “Thriller”.
