Short Reports On A Mixed Bag Of Movies

by Clarence Brewer

The following paragraphs contain some nice movie reviews. To find a movie download site you need to do the right search. You should have good luck with a search like “DVD Online Rental”; if not then try “Downloadable Movie Sites” and “Downloadable Films”.

The Great New Wonderful: A striking drama, set one year after 9-11, concentrates on a variety of New Yorkers who either are battling to handle their emotions in regards to that atrocious night or in reference to their lives as if nothing had occurred. They contain a couple with a dysfunctional child, an older lady snared in a miserable matrimony, a set of security guards, and an outwardly affable accountant who worked at the World Trade Center, and survived. Discreet, incisive research of suppressed anger uses humor and observation to dramatize the importance of living a life that has meaning. Cast includes Olympia Dukakis, Jim Gaffigan, Judy Greer, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Tom McCarthy, Sharat Saxena, Naseeruddin Shah, Tony Shalhoub, Stephen Colbert, Dick Latessa, Can Amett, Anita Gillette, and Edie Falco. (87 minutes, 2006)

The Educators: A verbose and overlong, sarcastic investigation of political idealism and hypocrisy in current Germany. A set of boisterous youthful liberals (Briihl, Erceg) see themselves as 21st-century Robin Hoods, which gives them a reprieve to steal from the rich. Problems surface while Erceg’s lady friend (Jentsch) partakes in one of their adventures. (137 minutes, 2004)

The Agronomist: A commanding, abrasive documentary picture of an intriguing individual, Jean Dominique, a leading Haitian figure and significant player in the nation’s battle for human being rights. The film offers observations into the affairs of state and history of Haiti in recent years. The focus of the movie is to give us a lucid image of one guy’s tough determination and large seated human rights beliefs, and his enthusiastic love for his country. The finale is shattering. (91 minutes, 2004)

Cry Freedom: An empathetic film in dealing with the life of South African activist Steve Biko (well played by Washington) and his kinship with crusading newspaper editor Donald Woods (Kline). Regrettably the second half of film, minus the Biko personality, loses itself as it invests too much time on Kline as he and his family flees from South Africa. Cast includes Kevin Kline, Penelope Wilton, Denzel Washington, Kevin McNally, John Defrost, Timothy West, Juanita Waterman, John Hargreaves, Alec McCowen, Zakes Mokae, and Ian Richardson. (157 minutes,’87)

Sugar Cane Alley: A beautifully made, heartfelt drama in regards to an 11-year-old boy and his all sacrificing nana, getting by in a Martinique shantytown throughout the’30s. The film is a humanist drama of the highest request. Cast includes Precious Legitimus, Garry Cadenat, Routa Seck, Joby Bernabe, and Francisco Charles. (107 minutes,’84)

Blithe Spirit: A delectable adaptation of Noel Coward’s comedy fantasy in regards to a guy whose long since passed first spouse appears to haunt and tease him in his recently wedded life. Rutherford is remarkable as Madame Arcati, the metaphysical medium. This film made an Oscar for its visual effects. Cast includes Rex Harrison, Constance Cummings, Kay Hammond, Margaret Rutherford, Hugh Wakefield, and Joyce Carey. (96 minutes,’45)

Lightning the White Stallion: An incredibly weak family fare with Rooney a prosperous guy whose racehorse is stolen. Cast includes Mickey Rooney, Isabel Lorea, Susan George, and Billy Wesley. (95 minutes,’86)

Primal Fear: Hotshot Chicago lawyer defends an altar boy implicated of brutally killing a much loved archbishop even though all proof appears to point to the youthful gentleman’s guilt. Gere gives a powerful performance in one of his best roles, as an arrogant attorney who, for once, doesn’t have all the facts straight. Newcomer Norton is additionally very impressive. The film loses some of its impact by going on too long and by following unconnected tale facets. Richard Gere, Laura Linney, John Mahoney, Alfie Woodard, Frances McDormand, Edward Norton, Terry O’Quinn, Andre Braugher, Steven Bauer, Joe Spanq, Tony Plana, Stanley Anderson, Maura Tierney, and Jon Seda. (129 minutes,’96)

Black Windmill the Dracula: This is a classic terror film of the Transylvanian vampire performing his malevolent spell on puzzled group of Londoners. Lugosi’s most renowned role with his definitive explanation of the Tally, ditto Frye as loony Renfield and Van Sloan as unflappable Professor Van Helsing. Cast includes Bela Lugosi, David Behaviors, Helen Chandler, Dwight Frye, Edward Van Sloan, Herbert Bunston, and Frances Dade. (75 minutes,’31)

Pool Table Materials That Make Tables Unique

by Matthew Kerridge

Not all pool tables are made alike. There are various things that can make a pool table for any recreational room unique. These five parts are all important to see when buying a pool table.

The length of the table is an important factor. Pool tables are generally made in seven, eight and nine foot rectangular lengths. A full nine foot table will be similar to that of a professional table. It can be easier to get a shorter table to be fit into some rooms though. It will help to look into the space available in a room when finding tables of certain lengths.

The stain that is used on the wood for the table is a great thing to see. A variety of different types of finishes and stains can work for tables. These include natural wood colors along with specific color stains. Black, brown and cherry stains are commonly used for pool tables. It helps to see what stain is best for a room so the table can fit into the room.

Another part of the table with regards to getting a room to blend in is its felt. This material that works for the surface that the balls move on is important. It can be used with different colors. Green can be used for traditional tables but other green hues that are darker can also work. Other colors like red, burgundy, blue, gray and brown can also work.

All six pockets can work with a certain type of netting. Some of the most professional tables have leather nettings. Others work with simple plastic pockets. There are even tables that have nets like what coin-operated tables use. These are where after a ball goes into a net it rolls towards a spot with other balls.

Finally there are the legs that are used for the table. Different options work for different professional and modern designs. A professional classic table will work with four individual legs. Modern tables can use two legs that extend over the entire width of the table.

These pool table parts are all helpful to check out. It helps to watch for things like the length, stain, felt, pockets and legs on the table. These parts are ones that will contribute to a good table for one. ‘s needs.

The Six Minute Mile Method

by Michael Becker

I was– years old, and I felt like I was about to collapse. I had just run a mile in less than 7 minutes, and I was thrilled. I wasn’t ready to stop there, however.

Fate dictated otherwise, and I ended up getting hurt during a lacrosse game the following week. I was unable to run for the rest of the year and I wasn’t happy about this. I never got back into running again.

It wasn’t until more recently that I started running again, challenging myself to beat my previous best times. While the 7 minute mile was a definite achievement for me, I was determined to set a new personal best by hitting a 6 minute mile instead.

After about ten attempts, I was forced into stopping early every time I tried to run the six minute mile. My body simply couldn’t handle it and it almost felt like I was sprinting by the end.

I was determined to figure out a way to make it happen and I’m happy to say that I did. This is all because of something I did that it wouldn’t have been possible without.

The biggest thing that made it happen was the fact that I started doing short runs at faster speeds. I would run a mile at a five minute pace, naturally stopping after two laps. This put me in a really good position to try for a 6 minute mile, which seemed easy in comparison.

You’ll need to be prepared to sweat, and be prepared to pant. The half mile was probably harder than the full mile at six was for me. Still, I accomplished my goal and it felt absolutely great.

From here, I have my goals set higher. I think I can run one in less than five.

The History of Clowns

by Stephen Daniels

Almost everyone has fun memories with a clown, from laughing at their stunts at the circus to having a balloon animal made for them at a birthday party. But most people don’t know about the long and colorful history of clowns.

Early clowns were called court jesters thousands of years ago. The first written account of a court jester was in 2500 BC in ancient Egypt. Records of court jesters found in China date back through the’00s BC. Even the majority of Native American tribes had clowns.

It wasn’t all fun and games. It’s interesting to note that jesters were the only people allowed to disagree with rulers, and, through their humor, they were responsible for impacting many important rulings. In China, it was the court jester Yu Sze who managed to convince the emperor not to paint the Great Wall of China, a ruling that eventually saved thousands of lives. In the 16th century, clowns became a major part of theater, known as Commedia del Arte. Today, English Pantomime is derived from this form of theater.

Even William Shakespeare recognized the importance of clowns in his work, writing about two in some of his plays; he even tailored some of his writing to fit the clowns’ personalities. It is believed that some of the scripts were even made up by clowns on the spot, perhaps the first roots of improvisational comedy, or “improv” as we know it today.

The first clowns appeared as circus acts in the mid-18th century in England. Variations of some of the first circus clown acts are still being performed today. “Whiteface” clowns appeared soon after; a product of Joseph Grimaldi, the Father of Modern Clowning. Whiteface clowns are the most familiar and well known today.

A fun fact about clowns is that the very recognizable character of American pop culture, Uncle Sam, is based on a clown! Dan Rice was possibly one of the most influential and highest paid clowns in history. A friend of Abraham Lincoln’s, Dan was well known for his satire surrounding modern events, and was possibly a forefather of stand up comedians today.

Clowns have become so popular and such a staple of life over the decades that there are even clown universities where folks can go study how to be a professional clown. The most famous clown college, Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Clown College, located in Sarasota, Florida, has formally trained thousands of clowns.

In more recent years, clowns have become a mainstream part of a child’s birthday party. Children love all the ways of entertaining young children a clown can have up his or her sleeve (literally.) They can create a funny animal or shape out of a balloon in seconds; they can paint a cute design on a child’s face; and they can excite the crowd with any number of tricks, like a squirting flower or a handshake buzzer. They also engage almost everyone at the party, even the shyest of the group.

For a great party, consider bringing a clown into the mix!

Which HDTV is best – Panasonic TC-P50G10 or the TC-P50S1?

by Edward McKellen

Choosing the right HDTV is not an easy task, especially with many models to choose from. One way of narrowing down your choices, though, is by selecting a brand then comparing two of the best models of that brand, like the Panasonic TC-P50G10 and the Panasonic TC-P50S1.

Let’s start by comparing the design of the Panasonic TC-P50G10 and the Panasonic TC-P50S1. Both have impressive glossy black frames with fashionable hidden speakers a silver strip at the bottom. What sets them apart, though, is that the TC-P50S1 has more rounded edges while the TC-P50G10 has a fading silver tinge below the strip and a thinner frame. In fact, you will find few Plasma televisions with a thicker frame than the TC-P50G10. They both have glossy black stands that still don’t swivel, but the TC-P50G10 comes with one that’s round instead of the usual rectangular one.

Both the TC-P50G10 and the TC-P50G10 also deliver the great image quality expected of an HDTV, with superbly deep black levels, saturated colors and excellent shadow detail. The images on the TC-P50G10, however, come closer to cinema quality, particularly in the THX mode. This new mode recreates movie images faithfully and better simulates the movie theatre experience. It also results in more accurate primary colors – something that the TC-P50S1 has a problem with at times.

Connectivity is a deciding factor when choosing an HDTV. After all, it is important to get an HDTV that is compatible with your existing devices. This is something you won’t have to worry about if you get the TC-P50S1, which has an SD card slot and three HDMI inputs where you can plug in your DVD player, Blu-Ray player and game console. If you have a computer, though, you might want to go with the TC-P50G10, which has a VGA input and a LAN port for the Viera Cast feature in addition to the connectivity options that the TC-P50S1 offers.

As for features, the Panasonic TC-P50G10 and the Panasonic TC-P50S1 each have their share of great ones. Both come with the Viera Link, one of the newest features made by Panasonic, which allows you to control your DVD recorder, Blu-ray player, surround sound speakers and other compatible devices remotely, sparing you the inconvenience of getting around and turning them all on and off one by one. Both models also have a game mode for gamers, an anti-reflective filter to prevent you from getting distracted when watching and a pixel orbiter to prevent screen burn-in.

The TC-P50G10 has one additional feature that stands out from the rest – the Panasonic Viera Cast. This feature allows you to use your HDTV just like a computer and access popular online content like YouTube videos, Amazon Video on Demand, Picasa web albums, weather reports, stock information and others without buying any other device. You will need an active internet connection to enjoy this feature, though, and the sites you can access are still limited.

It is also worth noting that the TC-P50G10 and the TC-P50S1 are more energy efficient than most Plasma televisions, although they are still far behind their LCD counterparts in this area. Both come with a NEO PDP panel while the TC-P50S1 comes with an Energy Star 3.0 rating – something it owes to the low light output of its default picture setting. The TC-P50G10 has an ECO menu which allows you to turn off certain functions automatically, as well.

Indeed, both the Panasonic TC-P50G10 and the Panasonic TC-P50S1 are excellent choices with a number of similarities. They both even have price tags that are not that different from each other. Still, the Panasonic TC-P50G10 clearly has a few more perks, which makes it worth the few extra hundreds and clearly one of the best HDTVs released by Panasonic so far.

Online Games : P2P v F2P

by Mark Walters

You may have heard the terms P2P and F2P in association with online games. These basically mean pay to play and free to play, and online games are either one or the other. The debate that is going on between players and followers of these two types of games often stem from which type of game is best and which one gives you more chances of building a strong character based on hard work or based on your having money.

There are good arguments for either side of the debate and, probably, there will never come a time when everyone agrees. If you’re an online gamer yourself, then you may well already have formed your opinions on the matter, but it’s still worth reviewing the points for and against both P2P and F2P.

The simple issue of cost is something that is clearly in favor of F2P games; after all, everyone likes free stuff! The cost of P2P games is often quite reasonable, maybe just $15 or so a month, but that only represents good value if you actually login and play the games regularly. If you only play online games a few times a month, then it can be hard to justify even that outlay. Therefore, for part-time gamers it’s hard to argue against F2P games.

It should be noted though that F2P games are not as free as you might assume they would be. Yes, you can play them without setting up a monthly subscription, but, if you want to make real progress on them, you will probably need to strengthen your character and get specific items for them. This may be achievable through hard work, but, in many cases, the only way to improve or upgrade is to pay. As for P2P games, you will find that weapons, armors and accessories that you need to become stronger can be had in-game without the need to buy them with real cash from an online shop.

The number of players involved in a game is the other major factor to take into consideration as, generally, the more players, the better the gaming experience as there is more action and interactions with others. F2P games tend to attract more players, though there are some exceptions, and you would therefore assume that F2P games win on this issue. However, the ‘quality’ of players is generally better on P2P; they are more involved and more knowledgeable. Therefore, for those gamers who wish to build armies and form alliances, P2P games are better, as the other players will be online more and will be more reliable.

I Buy Broadway Tickets Online

by Lorette Johnson

Broadway tickets may look very expensive but they really aren’t. The reason why these tickets are so expensive when you buy it is because a large number of brokers buy these tickets and then store them. Once they see the demand rising, they start selling these tickets for a massive profit and that is why most people end up spending a lot more than they should have.

One more way in which this works is that a lot of websites buy these tickets and then say that they are selling them for a discount. However, when you actually see the selling price you realize that it really isn’t a discount, as you are still paying more for your ticket.

If you are wondering how you will manage to get your Wicked tickets for its actual price, then there are a couple of ways. These two methods do work for a lot of people, but it involves spending some time researching.

One of the best ways to get your Wicked tix for its right price is to hunt for it on the web. Many websites solely function by selling tickets for Wicked. These websites are for the fans and usually sell the tickets at the original price.

The best way to go about on these sites is to go to their forums or chat rooms and put up requests for tickets. There are a lot of people just like you, so they are more than happy to help you with information on how they managed to get their tickets at the right price. Also, you may find people who had to cancel their visit for some reason and are putting their tickets up for sale, sometimes you may also find people selling their tickets because someone from their group dropped off.

Many get lucky if they find someone who wants to sell their Wicked show tickets for a lesser or similar price. Most of the times, people sell their tickets because they can’t make it to the show for some or the other reason.

The main reason why finding Wicked tickets at their original or at discounted price is so difficult is because the Wicked musical is extremely popular. More and more people want to see the show and demand surpasses supply, making the prices go higher and higher. However, many people who invest their time in researching on the web have been rewarded, so keep at it and you might just find your tickets at the right price.
