I have thought about opening my own Italian restaurant because I love to cook and I love to cook Italian food. One of my favorite items to cook is lasagna. I actually cook lasagna for thanksgiving dinner instead of turkey. But whether you are cooking lasagna, manicotti, ravioli, or even pizza, the key is in the pasta sauce. Here is my recipe for great pasta sauce which is the basis for most Italian meals.

I now use a slow cooker to prepare my pasta sauce. I used to use a large kettle and cook on the stove top. But I had to constantly adjust the flame and stir the sauce. With the slow cooker or crock pot I can let the sauce cook without my constant watching. You need a food processor for this recipe and of course a slow cooker.

This pasta sauce is a vegetable based pasta sauce. Sometimes I add chicken or beef. Use your food processor to grate four medium sized carrots and three baby zucchini squash; process one large onion with three cloves of garlic and process a half stalk of celery with one bunch of parsley. Place all these all these ingredients on the bottom of your slow cooker which you have set on the low cooking time and temperature.

Cover the ingredients with diced tomatoes. Use two cans of tomatoes, 28 ounces each. Then add tomato paste, one eight ounce can. Now mix all the ingredients together. Add the spices next. Add one teaspoon of rosemary, oregano, thyme, basil, sage, savory and marjoram. Mix that in well. Then add sugar about two tablespoons. This cuts the tomato acidity.

You cook this in the slow cooker for two to three hours at the lowest temperature setting. You can stir the sauce during the cook time a few times but unlike cooking your pasta sauce on the stove top you do not have to come back and keep stirring.

If you are a pasta sauce purest you might not want to use a crock pot. But I have tried both and I do not notice the difference. But the crock pot is a lot more convenient because I do not have to get up and check the flame or make sure I stir to keep if from sticking.

But if you want to use a stove top method raise the sauce first to a boil and then reduce the flame to a low simmer. And keep stirring the sauce so it does not stick to the pan. Once the cook time is over prepare some spaghetti and try out your sauce I am sure you will enjoy it.

Let the sauce cool down a littl before you refrigerate it. I pour the sauce in a cool pan so it will cool faster. You will have a lot of pasta sauce for the week if you are serving you or one more. Or it might go all at once if you are having guests over. Someday you might be eating in my Italian restaurant one day and recognize my pasta sauce recipe.

It is no secret that the restaurant industry is a tough one to succeed in. However, when you look at the real numbers, it is because far too many people get into the industry thinking that all they have to do is open their doors, have a good time and the profits will roll in. Take it from someone who has been there, the benefits of restaurant franchise give a new owner a much better chance of success.

Name Recognition – one of the main reasons people will fail in this restaurant industry is because consumers are not always willing to take a risk on an unknown brand. If they have $5 in their pocket and want a burger, are they going to ABC Burgers? We all know the answer to this one.

Paid Advertising – part of each month’s franchise fees goes towards national advertising campaigns. While owners can still do their own thing locally, their brand is already benefiting from the national campaigns that the corporations are putting out. This goes a long way in keeping your label fresh in people’s heads.

Higher Success Rate – franchises are far more successful than the average Mom and Pop restaurant. While companies will occasionally lay an egg, they pour millions of dollars into market research every year that is a key factor in deciding where they are going to open up their new locations. This is more than the average restaurant owner has in their entire budget.

Education – why do most restaurants fail? Because the owners have no idea what they are doing. When opening up a franchise, it is usually mandatory that the new owner work for FREE in another store to learn the business. Companies actually have series of classes in place that culminate in a 2 week course at Burger University to make sure that the owner is as prepared as can be when they open their doors.

Financing – without a great business plan and a ton of research, the average person will not be able to get any significant financing from banks in the restaurant industry. Add a franchise to the equation and many options are now available. Banks are more familiar with the names and the overall company success will go a long way in influencing their final decision.

Quality Control – if a person is operating as an independent, it is up to them to monitor the quality of the products that they are getting and to land their own deals. A franchisee has the backing of their brand behind them and will more than likely already have suppliers lined up. Not only that, but the corporation will run inspections of the suppliers from time to time to ensure that they are keeping up expected standards.

While the restaurant industry is one that will generally make people’s eyes roll when the subject of investing is brought up, it is an unfair stereotype that is based on the lack of knowledge that many restaurant owners have. Running a restaurant is a lot of work and takes a true passion for the industry to be successful. Operating a franchise will give you the knowledge and support that can bring people one step closer to running a successful operation.

Beat Makers come in all forms and sizes and are accessible either as downloads or on-line.

The Plough and the Stars: This is a boring, theatrical style film of a Sean O?Casey play with Foster as Irish a revolutionary leader and Stanwyck as his long-agonizing spouse who prays for his life. Cast includes Barbara Stanwyck, Preston Foster, Barry Fitzgerald, Una O’Connor, Bonita Granville, and Arthur Guards. (78 minutes,’36)

Rambo: Much better than part II, this one continues to be firmly footed in the genre of mindless action films, as our brawny idol goes behind Russian battle lines in Afghanistan to save his buddy from a prison fortress. You will see lots of eruptions to keep the action going and some funny stuff thrown in too. Cast includes Sylvester Stallone, Richard Crenna, Marc de Jonge, Kurtwood Smith, Spiros Focas, and Sasson Gabai. (101 minutes,’88)

Representative Cody Banks: A geeky, shy fifteen year old (Muniz) who is secretly a junior spy for the CIA is designated to befriend the cute daughter of a scientist building a secret weapon for a wicked organization. This fun filled, big spoof mix of Bond, Spy Kids, and Men in Black as an adolescent boy’s fantasy materializes. It is bundled with hot babes, cool automobiles, intense games action, and high tech devices galore. Cast includes Frankie Muniz, Hilary Duff, Angie Harmon, Keith David, Ian McShane, Arnold Vosloo, Cynthia Stevenson, Daniel Roebuck, Darrell Hammond, and Martin Donovan. (102 minutes, 2003)

Raintree County: Clift is a small town Hoosier who makes the blunder of wedding Southern belle Taylor before the start of the Civil War. Intense performances and memorable Johnny Green score help make up for the over-long script. Clift was maimed in near-lethal automobile mishap throughout production, and his work understandably agonizes for it. Cast includes Elizabeth Taylor, Montgomery Clift, Eva Marie Savior, Lee Marvin, and Nigel Patrick. (168 minutes,’57)

Down in the Delta: With her life a mess and essentially no desire to work, lone mother Woodard boards the bus with her 2 kids to spend the summer in the Mississippi Delta, living with family members and working in their restaurant. Episodic drama recoups from awkward start to better points for utter likability. Woodard beams and Freeman gives one of the best acting jobs of his career. Cast includes Alfre Woodard, Al Freeman, Jr., Wesley Snipes, Mary Alice, Esther Rolle, and Loretta Devine. (111 minutes,’98)

The Jackal: A Russian mobster seeing that the US is helping the Russian government fight crime, has hired master assassin the Jackal to kill the Director of the FBI. In a race against time, and with not much knowledge of the Jackal, the FBI enlists the services of IRA sniper Declan Mulqueen, bringing him out of jail to help. In a face pace race against time they work furiously to track the jackal down.

Shooter: Retired Marine Corp Sniper Bob Lee Swagger is asked to come to Washington, to help track another sniper that will try to kill the President. What happens to him next is a total shock. The same US government people that he is helping are actually setting him up to take the fall for the assassination. He somehow escapes when he is shot, and is now on the run. He is also ready to fight back.

Hi all… This week I have a tip for beginners… as a budding killer guitar player you need to “eventually”, one way or another, get to know EVERY note on the fretboard!!!!

Before you run off and hide in a corner, as I know this may seem really daunting at the moment, there is a really simple way for you to learn these notes. It is a common myth that it is difficult to learn all the notes on the fret board!! Until now!!

So let’s have a look…

There are twelve musical notes in total and we use the letters A B C D E F & G and the symbols # (sharp) or b (flat) to name them.

Fist off you have to remember that all the letters are followed by a #(sharp) or b(flat) EXCEPT B and E.

For now we will try to keep things really simple and concentrate on using just the sharps (#) for now!

Taking the fifth string played open produces the note of A. I chose this string as it’s the start of the alphabet! Now being as the open string is A the 1st fret is A#, second fret B and the third fret is C (remember there is no # after B) the 4th fret is C# meaning the fifth fret is D…

Carry on up the neck (remember there is no # after E) when you reach the twelfth fret you will be back at A again and the whole process starts again… Try practising this on every string, eventually you will be able to plop your finger on any note and be able to say what note that is instantly…

You will find this quite tedious at first but know one ever got anything worthwhile without a little work! You’ll have to trust me on this one as I know it pays off big time later on!

You are no doubt aware that you have six strings on your guitar. The first string is the thinest and the sixth string is the thickest. If you playa a string without holding it down against the fret we call this playing the string open. This means we obviously have six open strings and each string should be tuned to a note. On a guitar standard tuning of open strings is as follows:-

6th string is E 5th string is A 4th string is D 3rd string is G 2nd string is B 1st string is E

You must memorise the notes of these open strings as it is essential to the progress of your guitar playing in the future. You need to know these off by heart.

One thing is certain – HDTV’s are not going anywhere. Now days the price range can be anywhere from $200 up to tens of thousands. When you are considering spending that amount of money you want to research the product and find reviews that are not slanted. Currently you can choose from LCD, Plasma, LED or rear projection. The oldest HDTV’s are rear projection units and generally have lower contrast ratios, resolutions, and viewing angles. Most people are not interested in a rear projection HDTV, however if you find yourself with budget woes they are a way to get started in the high definition market. If you have a bit more freedom in the money department you will find the majority of HDTVs on the market are LCD based. There are all kinds of LCD sets to choose from but if you want the best possible picture stick with 1080p and leave the 720p alone. These numbers are referring to the screen resolution and 1080p is the best, and generally considered true HD. You will likely come across sets that are 1080, but instead of the “p” they have an “i”. This means the resolution is interlaced instead of progressive scan, which is not as smooth or clear a picture. The only time you may want to consider a 1080i set is if the price is right, sometimes the savings are worth the lower picture quality. You can also choose a plasma screen television, these were some of the first high intensity high def sets and when they first hit the market they were quite expensive. With time and competition, the price of plasma’s has gone down. Both plasma and LCD television sets have pros and cons as well as their diehard fans; generally, it comes down to personal preference. The latest and greatest in the HDTV world is the LED television set. These sets are LCD that use LED for backlighting which gives the set awesome color, contrast and resolution while at the same time reducing your carbon footprint! At the moment these units are the most expensive in the HDTV world and are aimed toward people who enjoy having all the latest technology. Of course, they do offer you the best picture experience and thinnest profile of any television available.

You are getting close to making your final decision on your new HDTV set, now it is time to check out the small features that will make you love your set. The most important aspect at this point in the game is the television connections. Each household will vary on what they need, however you will likely find you want pc connections, HDMI, and audio video inputs and outputs. The next item on the agenda is to examine the sets viewing angles, this is a measurement of how far to the side you can sit or stand and still be able to see a clear picture on the TV. When it comes time to organize or rearrange your living room, you will be glad you paid attention to this feature. Lastly, you should look at the models listed contrast ratio, this is the comparison of the dark black and light white of your set, the larger the number the better in most cases. Be forewarned though that manufacturers all have different methods for determining this ratio and so you will want to see the set in action. Avoid the sets that have dull grey looking blacks or dingy whites.

Though it may initially seem somewhat confusing, one thing is certain – HDTV is awesome. The past couple of years have seen drastic reductions in price making it possible to find a large HDTV for less than $1500. Nevertheless, if you are new to the HDTV market it is easy to be burned by low resolution and washed out colors. You can shop at a local electronics provider or an online retailer, but one thing is certain – HDTV will change the way you see TV from now on.
