Researchers have said that we only use about 10% of our brains’ capacities, which means that fully 90% is left dormant, untouched. Could you imagine what you might be capable of if you could access even a small part of the remaining unused part of your mind power?

What is meant by ‘power of mind’? There are people who can do this, of course, and scientists have known for quite some time that there are people around who can access their unconscious minds and manifest various abilities, perceptions and strengths. While every year produces a number of movies that are really good, few years for better than 2005. Movies in this year were gut-busting and funny and heart-breaking and moving. My favorite 2005 movies are among my favorite movies of all time. Here are some of my favorites and other notable 2005 movies.

2005 was the year of the family friendly franchise. Fox finished its Star Wars franchise with the Sixth (or Third, depending on your prospective) Star Wars film, Revenge of the Sith. This movie went on to gross over 848 million dollars around the world and brought the end to this thirty year long series. Likewise, The Chronicles of Narnia opened its first film based on the hit books: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The other big literary adaptation franchise hit that year was Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the fourth book in that monster series for Warner Brothers.

Steven Spielberg brought back his directorial touch to the summer blockbuster (long missed in the years since Jurassic Park), with War of the Worlds, as well as the critically acclaimed Munich. Peter Jackson also made his first movie since the huge success of his Lord of the Rings trilogy in King Kong, a wonderfully created re-make of the classic film. Robert Rodriguez made one of his best films to date with Sin City. Directors were really showing their stuff with their 2005 movies.

Awards were properly earned this year with 2005 movies such as Crash and Brokeback Mountain trading best picture awards in a variety of trade and critics awards ceremonies, though it was the ensemble-driven Crash that won the Best Picture Oscar based on its powerful look at racism in today’s society. Other award winning films include Good Night and Good Luck, Capote, Walk the Line and the smash-hit documentary March of the Penguins.

2005 movies included some exceptional comedies as well. Chief among them was the smash hit, Wedding Crashers, as well as the Judd Apatow breakout film, The 40-Year-Old Virgin. The small comedy Waiting, was one of the funniest of the 2005 movies, even though few people saw it at the theaters.

My favorite under-the-radar 2005 movies are actually quite numerous. Beyond Good Night and Good Luck, I also really enjoyed The Brothers Grimm, The Weatherman, Syriana, Lord of War, A History of Violence. Those are some 2005 movies you might not have seen.

South Park: Bigger, Longer And Uncut: Our dynamic four are in top form in the first feature length film of the TV series. There is a new movie at the theater, a Terrence and Phillips film, and the boys are off to see it. When they arrive at the theater they can’t get in because of the R rating. They overcome this obstacle by paying off a street drunk to get the tickets for them. This is the boy’s first real intense introduction to foul language. They leave the movie fully trained in the new words, and use them whenever they can. This leads to outrage from the parents. Since Terrence and Phillip are Canadian, this ends with the US and Canada going to war.

For Queen and Country: This is a striking modern day thriller of Life in England. Washington is well cast as a prior paratrooper who battles for existence in an environment of racism, poverty, and corruption, and then loses his British citizenship due to a legal technicality. Cast includes Denzel Washington, Dorian Healey, Amanda Redman, Ocean Chapman, and Bruce Payne. (105 minutes,’89)

Factory Girl: Dismal, true tale of’60s socialite Edie Sedgwick Miller and her self-damaging down turn into depravity and drug dependency after becoming one of Andy Warhol’s underground-film “megastars.” Christensen plays a renowned musician who looks, acts, and sounds suspiciously like Bob Dylan, with whom she has a stormy event. Cast includes Sienna Miller, Gentleman Pearce, Hayden Christensen, Jimmy Fallon, Jack Huston, and Shawn Hatosy. (90 minutes, 2006)

Border Shootout: Ignorant rancher is made deputy in Arizona boundary town that’s tired of aging sheriff Ford; however the townspeople’s lynching of supposed rustlers brings about instant conflict. Here is an excellent Western plot from the Elmore Leonard novel that is wrecked by amateurish production. Lovers: Aristocrat Mastroianni has a fictional spouse; an organ grinder persuades prostitute Mori to “impersonate” her. While it’s not stupid, it’s unexciting. Cast includes Marcello Mastroianni, Claudia Mori, Lino Morelli, Plant life Carabella, and Adriano Celentano. (93 minutes,’76)

The Horse Whisperer: After her daughter is seriously injured in a horse riding accident, her wealthy mother takes the horse to a legendary horse whisperer in Montana. A romance between the two follows.
