Slate and Artstone – The birth of competitive chess happened in London in 1851 with what many consider to be the world’s first modern chess tournament.

At the time chess had been rising in popularity in Europe steadily for over 400 years. People had started to think philosophically and strategically about the game, and to analyze it using mathematical formulas. Chess manuals were being published, and chess problems were a regular part of many newspapers weekly additions.

The tournament in London was the first international competition where grand masters came to compete with one another. The winner of the tournament was a surprise, as it was taken by the German representative Adolf Anderssen. A bold player Anderssen was known for his fierce attacks and showy style of play, which often intimidated his opponents. While considered strategically shallow by today’s standards, his method of daring and fierce offense became the popular way to pay for the era, and heavily influenced the development of stress strategy in coming years. This is demonstrated but games such as Anderssens Immortal game, or Murphys Opera games, which were both short and involved a high number of casualties.

Anderssen was beaten several times in his career, most notably by American Paul Murphy. A chess prodigy, Murphy had a short but sparkling career, in which is intuitive skill for developing attacks gave added depth to the strategic nature of the sport.

Though London had held what was considered the first modern chess tournament in 1851, it wasn’t until 1886 that the tradition of the world chess championship, which was to be played between the two top players in the world developed. This started when Wilhelm Steinitz, considered one of the leading chess theoreticians in the world, defeated the German master Johannes Zukertort.

The world chess championship was thereafter held informally, with the challenger having to defeat whoever the incumbent winner is to take the crown. This is a tradition which has continued, in an almost unbroken line, to this day.

Event photography has been a profitable career for those who have an artistic mindset. Working with traditional pen and ink Jeff has been able to produce amazingly detailed illustrations that have been known to shake heads across the globe. His work is known to range from full blown colour to black and white illustrations or one colour based portraits. So variation and style is not a problem for him, as he always has a new idea/concept he is ready to share with the world.

Jeff’s creative mind is one of a kind and he is not afraid to express his thoughts through his work. He has chosen to specialise and stay true to his passion, and this is what has maintained his credibility within the creative industry.

Trying to keep up with the times Jeff White has tried to move from the techniques of traditional art, to accommodate digital skills, which he has recently described as being ‘as comfortable as dipping my feet into a bowl full of warm salsa’!

Those who have a piano know what a joy playing it can be. Learning to play the piano is a tradition in many families that is passed down from generation to generation. Much like any other musical instrument, one has to take care of it to ensure it lasts. One such method of care is regularly cleaning the piano without causing any damage.

The following is list of tips on how to keep your piano clean without damaging it:

1. Over time, piano keys, especially those made with ivory can accumulate dirt and oily fingerprint stains. Use a lint free cloth to wipe the keys.

2. Use a soft cloth that has been dipped in a mixture of warm water and a gentle soap or white toothpaste for washing ivory keys. For plastic keys, use warm water mixed with vinegar. Make sure the cloth is damp, not soaked, as you do not want any solution running in between the keys and into the piano. A mild soap or moist cloth with dish detergent can help remove tough to clean stains.

3. Completely dry the keys with a soft dry cloth. If you are using white toothpaste to clean the ivory keys, you can remove the toothpaste after rubbing by wiping the keys with a soft cloth that has been dipped in milk. It is better to use milk because chemicals from cleaners can damage the keys.

4. When cleaning a piano’s wood finish, gently wipe the piano with a soft lint free cloth. Then use soft cotton that has been dipped in warm water to wipe down the piano. Make sure the cotton is moist, and not soaked.

5. Use a piano polisher to polish the piano. There are special polishes for pianos that are designed not to damage the piano. Do not use any aerosol spray that contains chemicals such as silicone as they can damage the piano.

6. To reduce the amount of dust from accumulating on the keys as well as any damage from occurring, keep the keyboard cover closed when not in use. As well, keep the keys out of the sun as it will yellow the keys.

7. Use a humidifier to keep moisture from getting inside the piano. High humidly can damage the piano and cause changes to its tuning. As well, the strings can rust when there is moisture.

Regularly wiping the piano with lint free cloth will help prevent dirt and dust build up. Don’t clean the inside of the piano because it contains a mesh of strings, sensitive components, and components that can move and break easily. Hire a professional piano technician as they can clean it without causing any damage.

Singularity through radio songs is significant to people like me belonging to the young generation. For us, the Internet is a good platform for us to showcase our talents, broadcast our belief and musings, and to express who we are. It is really not a different thing where my friends and I always look forward to new websites that can assist us in obtaining our goal of discovering exceptionally fresh talents, ideas, and concepts in cyberspace. Even if some songs are not written in English, you will still keep on listening to IMRadio because you will be treated to various sounds, types of music, and fresh songs. If we only knew how to play instruments, maybe my friends and I already have a band and have uploaded our song too.

Another reason why IMRadio is a runaway favorite from all online radios that we have encountered is the fact that fans can easily communicate with the bands. Each singer or band has a short profile and they can chat with their local or foreign fans if they want to.
