Select from the commentaries below and download a good motion picture to watch this evening.
Live Flesh – Obsessed child of a prostitute is incarcerated for accidentally shooting and paralyzing a cop. Original story of teenager’s error that takes him to prison. Spanish language. Cinematically stimulating, albeit, with a bravura finale. Cast includes Pedro Almodovar, Liberto Rabal, Francesca Neri, Javier Bardem, Angela Molina, Jose Sancho, and Penelope Cruz. (100 minutes, 1997)
Sugar Town – Amusing variety of LA life characterizing a handful of characters whose lives merge – a musician aspirant who’ll do anything to get ahead, an uptight lone lady who allures the unsuitable men like a magnet, and a band made up of cleaned-up ’80s rock stars, to name a few. Made on a shoestring, although intelligent and well recognized; superb cast contains a variety of real life musicians. Cast includes Ally Sheedy, Rosanna Arquette, John Taylor, Jade Gordon, Michael Des Barres, Lucinda Jenney, and Martin Kemp. (92 minutes, 1999)
A Few Good Men – Two Marines are being held accountable for the death of a fellow marine. They claim they were ordered to discipline private Santiago, and his loss was not intended. Lt. Daniel Kaffee will try to save the marines and get to the bottom of the case.
The Defiant – A preoccupying story of 2 escaped convicts, one black and one white who are chained together as they escape from prison in the South. Superior performances by Williams and Chaney as individuals they meet during the voyage. Academy Prize for screenplay by Harold Jacob Smith and Nathan E. Cast includes Tony Curtis, Sidney Poitier, Theodore Bike, Charles McGraw, Carnie Williams, and Lon Chaney, Jr. (97 minutes, 1958)
Jack Frost – A inattentive dad dies in an car mishap and comes to life one year later on as a snowman in his kid’s front yard! Nice, pleasant acting and an absence of hostility make this an alright family film. However, it on no account conquers its quintessential problem, an enormously creepy premise. Cast includes Michael Keaton, Kelly Preston, Mark Addy, Joseph Cross, Henry Rollins, and Dweezil Zappa. (95 minutes, 1998)
Christmas Vacation – The Griswalds have big plans for the Holidays this year. Clark has invited a bunch of the relations over for the gigantic merriment. Clark’s hard works go comically wrong, par for the course for a Griswald holiday.
Hanky Panky – Blameless designer Wilder is chased by snoops, cops, etc. Expected, hardly preposterous comedy-thriller, with Radner miscast as the love interest. The flick was intended to be a follow-up to Stir Crazy, although Richard Pryor’s part was revised for Gilda. You’ve seen it all before, and better. Cast includes Gene Wilder, Gilda Radner, Kathleen Quinlan, Richard Widmark, Robert Prosky, Josef Sommer, and Johnny Sekka. (88 minutes, 1982)
The Interpreter – U.N. translator Silvia Broome overhears a death threat made against an African leader. She knows that she was seen and fears for her life. Upon reporting the event to law enforcement, she finds that support will not come easy.
