Every Hollywood producer has one ambition in mind when they make a movie. They want to put out a movie that is a enormous sensation that the public loves. Fiorentino’s spicy femme fatale makes Stanwyck in Triple Indemnity look like Snow White! Vertical Limit – Peter Garett, an ex mountain climber who gave the sport up after his father died wretchedly while climbing, discovers himself in a troubling situation. His sister and climbing partner have been trapped in a deep crevasse while trying to climb the famous K2 peak. He is one of the only people competent of even trying a near impossible rescue. Time is of the essence, as the trapped climbers will soon freeze to death.

It Takes All Kinds – Fair triple-cross drama in reference to Miles’ guarding of Lansing after the man accidentally kills a sailor in a fight in Australia. Cast includes Vera Miles, Barry Sullivan, Sid Melton, and Dime Sugg. (98 minutes, 1969)

Blank Check – Gangster Carl Quigley almost murders young Preston when he runs over his bicycle. Wishing to just pay the kid off, he gives him a check. The hitch is he gave Preston a blank check. Preston makes the check out for $1 million dollars and cashes it. When Quigley sees what has happened he wants his money back. Can Preston steer clear of Quigley and his goons?

Some people believe that if you want to change the world you don’t become a bass player, but go into something more challenging and stimulating like the Post Office. Sure we acknowledge the fine contribution they make to their bands by supplying the bass lines and paying for the beer, but do they actually do anything really creative?

This brief listing of some prominent men (and woman) of bass will allow you to see that this apparently self effacing member of a musical group could be the creative powerhouse. Let’s start with the leather jacketed but overpoweringly feminine Suzi Quatro. A vocalist and bass player who had a bunch of hits in Australia and Europe in the early seventies, her popularity in the USA stemmed from her role as Leather Tuscadero in Happy Days.

John Entwistle pioneered the use of the electric bass guitar as an instrument for soloists. His aggressive approach to the bass guitar influenced many other bassists.

Flea of The Red Hot Chili Peppers impressed a lot of musicians with his popping and slapping technique which was originally invented by Larry Graham of Sly And The Family Stone. Flea’s innovative use of effects pedals has also influenced many bass players.

Jack Bruce wrote most of supergroup Cream’s hit songs. Among his other achievements are fighting constantly with Cream’s drummer, Ginger Baker and surviving a liver transplant.
