Dillinger – Dense gangster motion picture written by Philip Jordan, one of the best B films of its class albeit a key bank robbery is made up of stock footage lifted from Fritz Lang’s You Only Live Once. Cast includes Edmund Lowe, Anne Jeffreys, Lawrence Tierney, Eduardo Ciannelli, Elisha Cook, and Marc Lawrence. (70 minutes, 1945)
Sphere – An phenomenal discovery has been made at the bottom of the ocean. A gigantic submerged vessel has been found. A team of scientists is sent to the depths to explore. The ship turns out to be a spacecraft, with an extraordinary sphere inside. This sphere seems to have an effect on the crew of the deep-sea station.
Cry the Beloved Country – Moving redo of the 1951 film based on Alan Paton’s beloved story, in reference to a backwoods pastor (Jones) who, in 1946, makes his first ever trip to the city of Johannesburg in search of his wayward child. At the same time wealthy landowner Harris voyages there to claim the body of his child, who has just been killed. We see extraordinary work by Jones, Harris, and a largely foreign cast. Not as understated as the first making, however powerful in its own way. Cast includes Richard Harris, James Earl Jones, Charles S. Dutton, and Vusi Kunene. (120 minutes, 1995)

The Last Seduction – Pathologically malicious and strikingly sensual woman ditches her spouse, steals the cash he’s made in a drug deal, and escapes N.Y.C. to a tiny upstate town where she allures and bewilders a local gentleman who becomes her latest patsy. Fiorentino’s spicy femme fatale makes Stanwyck in Triple Indemnity look like Snow White! The movie is a scorching, seductive thriller from contemporary film noir master Dahl and author Steve Barancik. Cast includes Linda Fiorentino, Peter Berg, J. T. Walsh, Bill Nunn, Bill Pullman, Michael Raysses, and Zach Phifer. (110 minutes, 1994)
Lantana – Heartrending, mature storyline of relationships obstructed by monotony, routine, and absence of articulation. LaPaglia plays a cop, whose marriage has stagnated, leading him to have an affair. In the mean time, he investigates the disappearance of a lady whose own marriage is in danger.
