Sean Bean who played Richard Sharpe will be joined by Lean Hedely of The Sarah Connor Chronicles fame, in HBO’s ‘A games of Thrones’ based on George RR Martin popular ‘Song of Fire and Ice’ series of fantasy books. Lean will be playing the role of queen everyone loves to hate-Cersei Lannister

They will be joined by Mark Addy, Jennifer Ehle, Peter Dinklage, Tamzin Merchant, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau , and Iain Glen, as well as a few lesser known actors who have been confirmed for the pilot. No Firm date has been set for the pilot, and there is not yet a promise that HBO will commit to a full series either, but with an impressive cast list headed up by Bean and Hedly, HBO is definitely taking this project seriously.

The strong cast is already creating excitement, but with some of the casting is still to be announced, including the unconfirmed but heavily rumoured casting of Rory McCann as Sandor “The Hound” Clegane.

The show is been adapted and produced by David Benioff and Dan Weiss. David has suggested a ‘crappy’ tagline for the project could be, “The Sopranos in Middle-earth”, which can only set the imagination racing. With plot elements that will contain spot of conspiracy, incest, child murder, corruption, conspiracy, a rival claimant to the throne across the sea, the still-festering legacy of a civil war 20 years before, a growing threat in the North and did I mention conspiracy?

Production is due to begin in Northern Ireland in October 2009, at Paint Hall Studios in Belfast. It is also rumoured that the BBC will have a financial involvement in the series in a similar way they did with HBO’s Rome series.

HBO has a strong history of producing great television drama, and with the strength of the source material, the cast and HBO’s pedigree. I think we can look forward to a truly exciting proposition.

I have been teaching guitar for almost 20 years and it’s quite interesting to notice that new students have often the same questions. I hope this article will help some of you to understand some core strategies when you learn to play guitar. I get frequently asked about electric versus acoustic guitar lessons and I always recommend starting with acoustic first. I have my good reasons for that:

Acoustic guitars are loud enough and you don’t need any amps or gadgets you would normally need if you play electric. That will save you quite a bit of money you could invest in online video tutorials or even a better guitar.

When you play electric guitar you often use more advanced techniques like string bending and tremolo bar, while if you start with acoustic guitar lessons you are more inclined to practice basic techniques like strumming, chords changes and fingerpicking. It’s so important to lay down a strong foundation and therefore to start with the basics.

Playing pop songs on an acoustic guitar sounds so much natural that will motivate you to play more.

Because there’s no need for an amp, an acoustic guitar is much easier to take wherever you go: camps, school, friends house etc.

Starting on an acoustic guitar will make your hands stronger because it’s a bit harder to press than on an electric guitar. This is a good start to your training.

I hope you get my point by now why you should start with acoustic guitar lessons. Another very common question is whether to use a steel or a nylon string guitar and in my opinion they are both perfectly fine to start with. A gear junky like me would actually want them both but if you are starting out you might just want to make a decision based on the kind of sound you are after. If you like classical, bossa nova, spanish music then a nylon string will help you nail the sound while for country, pop, rock a steel string is what you need.

Once you’ve been practicing for a while and you’re playing loads of songs then you can move on to electric guitar. Electric is slightly easier to play and you’ll be glad you started with acoustic guitar lessons.

Learn to play guitar is a very rewarding activity and be reassured that the effort you put in will eventually pay off in due time. There’s a certain level of commitment required to see results, no matter what level you want to play at. So practice, practice, practice and remember at all times to have fun.
