Jumping Onto the Big Green Screen
For most people, getting into a movie is easier said than done. It’s more probable that you would be drafted onto an NFL team than be cast in a Hollywood blockbuster opposite Bruce Willis or Samuel L. Jackson. It takes that odd, nebulous combination of hard work, talent, and luck. It’s a tired cliche in Hollywood, but becoming a celebrity is a matter of being in the right place at the right time — and delivering.
It’s not enough to have talent and never get a break. Conversely, it’s not enough to catch a break and not have the chops to make it happen. You have to live in a constant state of readiness, not unlike a gladiator or top-rank athlete. You just never know when that magical, mystical break is coming. Of course, living in that heighten state for too long can lead to burn out.
It’s a sad fact, but for the first time in its history, more people are leaving Los Angeles than are coming. Sure, the buses carrying the wide-eyed hopefuls and future superstars are still in service, but the numbers are down. Maybe they discovered the fact that if you want to be a star — in your own movie — you don’t have travel any further than your neighborhood.
You want to be on a Hollywood set? You have a lot of legwork to complete. But the truth of the matter is a Hollywood movie set not a very exciting place to be. What will you be doing a great deal of while on set? Waiting around. There is a reason why it takes weeks and months to shoot a 90-minute movie. The logistics and equipment changes are enough to make most people run screaming.
In the meantime you have a few options. With a green screen, digital camera, and the right kind of software — the kind provided by companies like Yoostar — you jump into your favorite movie and see how you compare to Daniel Day Lewis or Liam Neeson or whomever. It’s a fun first step towards becoming the star of your own movie. Have a go with your favorite stars and work on points for style.
