How To Learn Acoustic Guitar The Easy Way
These are the common reasons that cause people to fail when they learn acoustic guitar:
I am going to tell you the 7 secrets to learning the acoustic guitar in this article but before I do I need to let you know about the things people normally have trouble with when they learn acoustic guitar. This serves 2 purposes:
Anyone, and yes anyone can learn to play acoustic guitar and that includes you. All you need is the right guidance, consistent practice, the correct mindset and of course a decent guitar with a few essential tools. That’s it. So as long as you have that there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be able to play guitar.
So now that you’re aware of the pitfalls to avoid and that you have the right mindset you need to know what a decent guitar should look and feel like. Don’t buy the first one you come across. Try a few so that you can get an idea of what different guitars feel and sound like.
Proper action Decent intonation New strings And a decent sound
If you have two Martial Arts fighters who do you think will win? The one who practiced a 1000 kicks once each or the guy who practiced 1 kick a 1000 times? Simple answer: The guy who practiced 1 kick a 1000 times no doubt. So why do people practice so many different things once and then when they don’t see results they quit? Pretty stupid isn’t it? It’s easy to fall into that trap though but if you can learn to focus on a few things at first and practice them consistently you will see results without a doubt.
Focus on the following things at first. Learn 3 or 4 chords from a certain key at first like G, Em, C and D. Then learn some basic strumming patterns along with 1 or 2 finger-picking patterns. Once the chords and the strumming and picking patterns are happening you need can start with some basic left and right hand syncing techniques. Then to wrap things up learn a few scales and check out some basic theory.
Songs rule and that’s a fact. Take the 4 chords you learned and learn as many songs as possible. Of course you should like the songs and they shouldn’t be too difficult. Start with really easy songs and then play along to the mp3′s or Cd’s, jam with you friends and use a drum groove or metronome when possible. Playing songs with other musicians is a million times better than sitting alone in your bedroom. Get out there and jam!
Fast is slow and slow is fast! Learn to play acoustic guitar is all about muscle memory and you get that down with repetition. Play the same thing over and over and make sure you’re practicing it slowly enough so that you don’t make the same mistake over and over. You don’t want to program mistakes and bad habit’s into your muscle memory! So go slow at first and gradually speed things up.
Then the most important thing is to have fun and have a long term view of learning this new skill. Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither can you master the guitar in a day. A journey of a 1000 miles must begin with a single step. Don’t knock yourself over the head if you’re not making super fast progress. Rather enjoy the ride and just make sure you follow these 7 steps and I can guarantee you that you’ll be playing the acoustic guitar in no time at all.
