Then they meet the Tin Man who says that he intends to kill them all if one doesn’t kill another one before sunrise. Terror ensues.

Gibson’s best-selling instrument is regularly the Les Paul Studio, which is easy to understand, since it allows its owner some of the features of the more expensive Gibson Les Paul at a much more inexpensive cost.

Since the Gibson Les Paul Studio is well over $1,000, it’s still out of the price range of many guitar players. The Epiphone Les Paul Studio is an endeavor to catch the feel of the Gibson model at a much more inexpensive price point.

With a list price of less than $400, it’s surely much more inexpensive than the Gibson equivalent. But what about the guitar itself?

The Epiphone Les Paul Studio features a mahogany neck and body with a carved top. The neck is set rather than bolt-one, which is curious for a guitar in this price range.

Considering the instrument’s other features, it has a rosewood fretboard, chrome hardware, a tune-o-matic bridge, and stopbar tailpiece. Electronically, the instrument has two Alnico Classic open-coil humbuckers.

For the price, we found this guitar to be a great beginner-level instrument or even a guitar for an intermediate-advanced musician who’s willing to provide a few upgrades.

The action was good, though we did notice a few audible buzzes due to some high frets.

Although the volume pots and pickup selector switch were a little scratchy (nothing a little contact cleaner couldn’t take care of), we believed the pickups did a very solid job of spitting out great blues and rock sounds.

The complaints, though, are moderately minor and not worth focusing upon. A Epi Les Paul Studio goes for around $350 new and $200, so there’s really not much room to complain.

The bottom line: this is a strong beginning-level instrument at a extremely nice price.

At some point every guitarist wants to know what the secret is to learning guitar fast. There is no magic potion, but there are a few things you can do to speed up the process.

Let me explain real quick that I recently turned the age of 29, and have researched more than music and guitar, but also the study of personal development. You can read more about Personal Development on Wikipedia or other sites.

In essence, personal development is the study of goals and achievement. It involved setting goals, creating plans to achieve them and learning to be happy with your accomplishments and keep striving for higher goals.

The exact same principles apply to the guitar. You must have a goal, lay out a plan to achieve the goal, work hard, and finally achieve it.

We have all done this in our lives, whether it was working hard to get good grades in school, or save up and buy your first guitar, whatever, you have done it, unintentionally.

Once you learn how we use this method for playing fast, apply it to all your guitar skills you want to improve, like strumming, scales, etc.

Time to get down to business, let’s set a goal, alright, let’s start playing guitar fast, that’s cool, but we need something we can achieve right now, so let’s choose to work on a standard 3 note patter on 2 strings like the following lick:

Now you need to set the goal, which is to play at 80BPM and when each click hits on your metronome, make sure you are hitting a new string. Play this pattern with this picking: (B)down up down; (E)up down up.

80BMP may be too fast for you, if it is, then slow it down until you can do it cleanly and smoothly.

As soon as you feel good doing it at that slow speed, keep doing it, don’t go faster, just keep doing it, even if you can’t stand it, just keep going, we need to get your muscles to memorize these small movements at a slow pace so they can rip it up at lightning speed. Once you feel extremely confident, move the metronome up a few clicks and start going again the same way, get it good and clean and just keep going, for like 10 minutes! Set your ultimate goal to be 120 BMP for this riff, you may be able to do this in 20 minutes, if not, don’t worry, just keep working on it, soon you will do it and can apply this to everything you play.

By now, hopefully you rip it up at that lick and went from turtle to hare and are cruising with it. So now, go grab some new licks and do what you just did with that riff. Start it slow, get faster, set a crazy high goal and practice it until you achieve it.

Don’t set goals that are out of reach, we build on success, so choose a completely attainable goal and slowly increase it.

For some challenging goals or super hard riffs, you may have to take breaks for a few minutes, or even work consecutively for days on them to get them fast and clean, just remember to start slow, began where you left off, or slower, and keep going.
