Televisions: Where They Were And Where They Are Going
If someone were asked what the greatest invention of the 20th century was, many would reply, the television. This is because the television revolutionized the way people are entertained and the way they get information. Televisions provide the world with 24 hours of entertainment at absolutely no cost to the viewer. The following article will talk about how the T. V first entered the market and how it may change in the future.
The commercial television set came into the market in the 1930s. The actual invention of the T. V however was going on for decades before and took many different technologies to bring it to life. The T. V. Set didn’t do very well in terms of sales when it first hit the stores. This was mainly because there was a lack in the number of channels and shows available to consumers. This all soon changed when the major networks began to broadcast shows for free and offered a wide array of programming.
The first commercial aired in the 1940s and the television industry hasn’t looked back since. It was a way to allow the networks to broadcast shows for free without having the main consumer pay for the expense. And soon, the television set became a staple in almost every household.
The great thing about having many networks broadcasting shows was that it forced them to compete with each other for ratings. This allowed for new quality programming to hit the airwaves and it made people want to buy more televisions. The 1960s was the golden age for the television because that was the time the T. V. Set went from being a luxury to a necessity in the home. The competition also allowed the networks to exploit niche markets and have their shows appeal to a specific audience.
Besides the change in T. V. Programming, the physical television set has changed quite a bit as well. When the set first came out the picture was fuzzy and the image could only be displayed in black and white. Slowly with the advent of better antenna’s and cathodes, the television image became much sharper and cleaner. Another great addition to the TV set was the invention of the remote control.
Currently, TVs have gotten a technological revival and are entering the realm of high definition. Their image quality has improved so much that they are able to display images at higher resolutions than movie theaters. They have also gotten much better aesthetically. When they first came out TVs were big and boxy. Now they are flat so they take up very little space and light enough to hang on your wall.
Lately, there are rumors the T. V is going to go from a flat image on a screen to a 3 dimensional picture that actually has depth. Though this technology is still a few years away it is exciting to be there for ride as televisions get better and better.
