Televisions: A Familiar Link Around The Globe
Televisions have been an entertainment source for centuries. The availability of it has succeeded in bringing people from around the world together with commonalities they would not have otherwise had. It enables conversations to take place that otherwise would not.
It is almost comforting in an odd sort of way to know that during the exact same time you are furious at the bachelorettes choice someone thousands of miles away is thinking the same thing at the same time as you.
A great example of how it has brought strangers together in conversation is demonstrated with a program being aired in November of 1963. As John F. Kennedy was being assignation and throughout the funeral, people worldwide were grieving during the same time for a man they had never met. This tragedy brought strangers in line to tears at the exact same moment, they were comforting people never before met because of witnessing an incident at the same time.
The United States suffered the loss of a president, yet his death was observed and saddened around the world. There were literally millions upon millions of guests present for the wedding of Princess Diana and Prince Charles. We had never met either one and still there were tears of joy around the world at the exact same time. The states, a country devoid of Queens and Princesses felt a deep loss at the death of Diana. The country mourned along side those who knew her as though she were a neighbor. This would not have been a noticeable situation had there be no way to view the unfolding of her life on TV. This electronic box enables people from countries world wide to share a common interest.
There are households everywhere that are encouraging children to stay clear of the watching TV habit or begging spouses to turn off the sports channel. As many of these individuals who believe that programs have a harmful result, there are as many who realize there is a chance to learn more history or science from a program than would ever be taught in a class room.
This miracle picture delivering box has paved eighty plus years of changes for many different scenarios. Since 1927 when the first television show was aired, millions of strangers have watched families change and grow. Hundreds of countries and millions of viewers were laughing at the exact same time when Lucille Ball and family put their life on public display. Individuals would strike up discussions with strangers to respond at how much Little Ricky has grown. Strangers brought together to chat about a child neither personally know.
The invention of televisions many believe is only a way to brainwash their children or keep spouses preoccupied. To others it is a form of entertainment, a common link to people world wide, a career and for many a source of income. Without television there would not be jobs for cable or satellite installers, there would be minimal advertisement jobs, and many other forms of employment many of which are supporting the very people complaining about the devastation it brings to their home life.
