Don’t Get A Tattoo If You Think They’re Cool
Maybe you are sitting on the fence, waffling about whether or not to get a tattoo. We hope this article will help you determine whether or not you should get one. Ultimately, it’s your decision, but like any decision, it will come with repercussions you may not have thought of.
Why not?
Too often, we see people who haven’t thought through their tattoo, and then this cheapens the tattoo experience. Here are some people we would caution to think twice before they go through with a tattoo.
Okay, just in case you don’t know if this article is for you, keep reading. So who are you, anyway? Let’s see if you fit any of the following descriptions:
You think tattoos are cool. That is reason #1 on your list. They are cool, the people who have tattoos are cool, and by golly, if you get a tattoo, you’d be as cool as those people. Rule #1 of getting a tattoo: Don’t get a tattoo if you think they’re cool. The reason for this is that is not a compelling reason to get a tattoo.
Sure, people don’t always get tattoos for the right reasons. Some people get a tattoo because of peer pressure. Some get tattoos to declare their undying devotion and love for someone. Some people get tattoos because they are trying to fill a void in their lives. For what it’s worth, these reasons are not the best in the world, but they make sense and they are forgivable. Getting a tattoo because they are cool is where we draw the line.
People who are middle-aged: People who are middle-aged and undergoing some sort of middle-age crisis shouldn’t get a tattoo. It makes them look desperate and like they are trying to relive their youth. People don’t realize that this act of desperation isn’t lost on the youth who they are trying to emulate. Better just suck it up and face the facts of life: You aren’t getting any younger and a tattoo isn’t going to help you
Chances are, what was cool to you before was no longer cool when you grew up. You grow out of phases in your life. You may grow out of this phase of your life where you think tattoos are cool.
Take it from me, a lot of people I know who got tattoos when they were young lived to regret their tattoo. One girl I knew had a tattoo on her back, and when she got married into a very conservative family, she had to cover it up with heavy foundation and makeup. She has been contemplating tattoo removal because the tattoo no longer represented who she was now.
Another friend I know got a tattoo and now covers it up. She wears turtlenecks and long-sleeved shirts everywhere, even in the summertime. She just graduated from college and is looking for a job in teaching, and she knows that she cannot be hired if she doesn’t project a certain image. With her multiple tattoos running down the sides of her arm, she looks like a gang-banger. At one time, she ran with a rough crowd, but she no longer hangs out with this crowd. She also regrets having tattoos.
I can go on and on. The bottom line is, if you can’t think of any reasons than getting a tattoo because they are cool and can get you in some cool clique, then you have no business getting one. You will thank me years from now you didn’t make that mistake. A tattoo is something you’ll most likely live with for the rest of your life. It should be a blessing, not a burden down the road.
