Nick Jonas: Pledging $25,000 to Help North Texans
Nick Jonas, one of our favorite teen celebrities, went to the North Texas Food Bank on January 2 and pledged $25,000 to the facility. “If there’s something I can do to help volunteer here today or giving a financial gift- that’s something I can do,” Jonas explained to The Dallas Morning News.
During his two hour visit, Jonas helped the charity by putting together food packages. A Dallas native, he felt at home working with his fans. Hours after volunteering, Jonas treated everyone to a debut performance with his new band Nick Jonas & the Administration at Dallas’ House of Blues. Deciding to start the tour in Dallas “felt like the right move” for the successful star.
Approximately 140 volunteers joined to help at the food bank and meet Jonas. One of the volunteers was Serena, the 10-year-old granddaughter of Food Bank President Jane Pruitt. Serena is a big fan of Nick Jonas, and was thrilled to meet him at the facility.
“He knows his rights and wrongs, and he knows that other kids don’t have what he has. And he’s thankful for what he has,” quotes Serena in an article from The Dallas Morning News. The real problem of hunger everywhere is extremely important to Nick. He is a diabetic, so he understands how a healthy and regular diet is needed to a person’s well-being. Some of his fans that also have diabetes admire Jonas and think of him as a role model; a young person living with diabetes and following his dreams.
Since they were very young, the Jonas brothers have been active participants in charities. According to their father, through their foundation they have donated $1.5 million in each of the past two years. The North Texas Food Bank was a collaboration between TV’s “The Biggest Loser” and the charity Feeding America. Feeding America, the nation’s leading hunger-relief charity, is made up of more than 200 food banks and food rescue organizations. Every year, the charity helps to feed about 25 million low-income Americans, including more than 9 million children. Food Bank President Jane Pruitt was extremely appreciative of Nick’s generous gift.
“This is our next generation of philanthropists,” Pruitt told The Dallas Morning News. “His (Nick Jonas’) time here with these couple of hundred kids that are out here volunteering today- they’re going to find out, ‘Well, it’s important to him, it should be important to me.
