Many gift cards can be refilled, and some companies have established customer reward programs where the more often you refill your card, the more perks you get. Starbucks and other coffee retailers have jumped on the bandwagon and figured out how to let customers refill their cards online. For added convenience, you can even sign up for automatic refills ‘ if you card dips under a predetermined amount, it is automatically refilled to a predetermined amount from your checking account.

Gift cards can be a welcome source of financial assistance for perhaps elderly relatives or even kids away at school. Perhaps grandma needs help with groceries and food bills. Send her a refillable gift card for the store she shops in most. She won’t even need to worry about using it all up because you can check for updates on expenditures and refill it for her online ‘ she doesn’t even have to know.
