Discover Why You Should Buy Numark iDJ2 Ipod Mixing Console
The face of the Numark iDJ2 is where all the joy appear. The centerpiece of the system is a slightly angled 4.25-inch color screen used to select songs and view playback status. An adjustable Ipod dock above the screen uses a deep well in an attempt to keep your Ipod out of harm’s way. To the right and left of the screen are an identical pair of mixer controls, including knobs, buttons, faders, and jog wheels.
Like most traditional DJ mixers, all of the Numark iDJ2′s audio connections are on the top line of the console, with the exception of headphone and microphone inputs, which are conveniently located on the peak facing you. The bottom and sides of the iDJ2 are bare.
Overall, we’re arouse by the iDJ2′s ergonomic layout and attractive on-screen user interface, however, the all-plastic construction does feel flimsy compared to classical analog DJ mixers.
Even though my expectations were equally low, Numark really surprised me with the key lock performance. For those that are not familiar with this feature, here it is in a nutshell. Most DJ programs, CD players and even some turntables offer the ability to change the speed of a song without affecting the pitch – you can radically speed up files and not get the chipmunk effect. Not to be outclass, the iDJ2 includes key lock on each deck, which can require a lot of processing power to sound good. I was cheerfully blow away that it sounds great even when pitched to extremes. The low end stayed strong when pushed into the range where poor key lock systems would start to break apart and show their flaws.
Anyone can quickly manage a music library using the iDJ2′s new, highly intuitive graphic interface. The oversize LCD screen offers waveform display and visual track-profiling. The iDJ2 allows DJ’s to record their musical performances to the iPod or any connected drive, in addition to full control audio play back.
Makeup
Compared with the hodgepodge of laptops, CD decks, mixers, and retrofitted turntables today’s digital DJ’s are saddled with, the iDJ2′s biggest selling point may be the neatness of its all-in-one system. Numark has managed to fit a two-channel mixer, music library, and DJ control surface all into a space measuring 16-inches wide by 12-inches deep by 3-inches high (including knobs).
