Steady Rain Only Showed For A Limited Time
Broadway shows vary in length, story, plot, flashy effects, and many other arenas. One of the latest productions – Steady Rain — was, by far, the least flashy performance to ever be seen on Broadway. While Steady Rain is one that is loved by the audience, the production had not, in early days, received good –or even decent — reviews or attention. Regardless, Steady Rain was on stage through December 2009.
This Broadway production is fascinating due to the fact that it is a 2-man performance. There are no special effects, dancers, choreographers, or anything that would typically keep an audience’s attention. Throughout the entire show the two men stay in one position while discussing their lives together. The production was directed in such a manner that audiences almost feel as if they are being read to. To many this may sound like a boring evening; however, it has proven to be an extremely emotional experience for those who have attended.
Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig are the two actors who portray life-long cop friends. They have experienced the best of times together, along with the worst of times. Through these times, the men in this story stayed by each other side. There is no set where this story takes place, as Steady Rain is a story of the men looking back on their lives together. There are no two better actors than Jackman and Craig, to grab the attention of their audience and immediately bring them into the story, making them feel as if they were there.
Steady Rain is not the typical type of production that you would see on Broadway. Because of this the production was scheduled for only 12 weeks, beginning in September of 2009 and ending in December of the same year. Reviews, in the beginning, were very negative and the media would not give the production the attention it deserved. However, all of this has changed as of late, and for the good. Critics were drawn into the story, as are all audience members, and feeling the emotion behind that drives it. Jackman and Craig look back on the good and the bad and make you feel as if you there with them.
Recently, Hugh and Daniel were faced with an obnoxious audience member who did not feel the need to quiet their cell phone. With the depth of this production, a ringing phone is quite the interruption. The actors handled it well as they simply stated that they would wait until the person was done with their call before continuing on. Of course this made some audience members gasp and others laugh, but it did lift the tension. Hopefully Jackman and Craig will not have to deal with any other annoying disturbances and these two deserve a standing ovation at every show. Neither here nor there, the show ended in December.
