Even Adults Like Wooden Puzzles
Wooden puzzles aren’t just for preschoolers. In fact, people of all ages and all walks of life enjoy them. From nursery schools and day care centers to nursing homes and rehabilitation centers wooden puzzles aren’t only fun and educational but therapeutic as well.
Wooden puzzles can help people recover lost motor skills or relearn letters and numbers that they’ve forgotten due to head injuries or neurological disorders. They’ll also help restore cognitive skills and because they’re also just plain fun they can have a relaxing influence on those who are stressed by their disabilities. As we age our ability to think and reason slows down and it has been proven that playing with puzzles is beneficial in that it helps exercise your mind and slow down this part of the aging process.
Young kids learn to develop thinking skills and problem solving skills from a very early age when they have wooden puzzles to play with. Wooden jigsaw puzzles and stacking puzzles are fun and keep them entertained but at the same time your child is also developing his motor skills, his hand to eye coordination, his cognitive skills, and even his community skills when he is playing with the puzzles with other children.
Older children use wooden puzzles to learn the alphabet, their colours, and their numbers. They learn to match designs and shapes and there are an unlimited variety of puzzles that teach your child about different animals, jungle animals, farm animals and pets. There are even puzzles that help teach your youngsters history lessons and Bible stories. And I am certain you remember the wooden puzzle maps you had in grade school that taught you where the different countries where located and all of the different states in America.
Wooden puzzles are not just for young kids either. I’m certain you’ve got seen the various wooden brain teaser puzzles, puzzle boxes, 3-D wooden puzzles and all types of interlocking wooden toys that are enjoyed by teens and adults alike. You probably even have a few yourself. Some of those can be quite difficult and tougher to beat than most of those video games the kids play these days. Of course, maybe that’s just a testament to my own puzzle solving skills!
Wooden toys and puzzles have been around as long as their have been kids and toys and they’ll still be around for generations to come. They turn up in archeological digs, we find them in antique stores, they are literally timeless. And it’s certainly obvious that they are durable. They need no batteries to replace, no removable parts to choke on, they don’t make any noise and they do not move unless your child moves them. They literally force your child to use their imagination and the whole time they are having fun they are also learning something.
