It may be unrealistic for some individuals to think they will conquer public speaking anxiety completely. Perhaps some public speakers with many years experience can walk in front of an audience without any nervousness at all.

For the majority however, who may only be called on occasionally to speak before a group or an audience, there will always be some anxiety. A realistic expectation regarding public speaking anxiety and following the suggestions above can however do much to control it so it does not overwhelm the speaker.

If you are like myself and most girls, you do a “spring cleaning” one or two times per year. I love to have many clothing options in my closet, but I dislike clutter ot the time spent sorting through my wardrobe. With assistance from a friend, I’ll get this done pretty fast.

From a different perspective, doing this alone could be a panic-attack-inducing experience for me. Since almost all of my wardrobe items are in like-new or excellent-used condition, I kind of feel guilty just tossing them. To better help me with my “recycling”, I usually resell my items using numerous mediums including eBay, Craigslist, and even outside flea markets in the hotter months. Personal Work: An Investment in the Future?

As a professional social & portrait photographer, I am always having a busy schedule processing images and albums inbetween bookings. That’s why my personal work is so important. It shows a love of craft over money!

I like my personal work to be an extension of my commercial images. It is my outlet to take risks, and to explore styles without interference or worry.
A concept will strike, and inspire the need to actualize it, play with it and create something which is different from my regular work but which in turn could lead to more interesting paid commissions. So really, personal work is an investment in the future – or am I away with the fairies?

SWPP Conference
This weekend I was invited to speak at the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (SWPP) Conference in London. My topic was marketing and business for social photographers.
It was the first time in my career as a photographer that I had done anything like this, yet I managed to deliver what I thought was an exciting 2 hour programme of slides and information. I was amazed that at 8.00 in the morning so many people had turned up to hear what I had to say, and that the room was full with only one empty seat left!

I talked about USPs (unique selling points) and in particular my own which I believe sets me and my business apart from others. I illustrated the talk with references to fashion photographers who inspire me such as Nick Knight, and magazines such as Vogue which point me in the direction that I want to go with my wedding photography and album design.
I talked about branding for photographers and niche marketing, and rounded my talk off with a quick tour of business & financial planning which most photographers don’t do.
I hope that my audience enjoyed it and went away with some useful information that they could apply to their own businesses. I wish to thank those who have sent me lovely e-mails since. I am used to talking to loud crowds when my camera is hanging round my neck. It is a completely different experience clutching a mike and a remote for a slideshow.

Using an Inappropriate Font Size

There is always a compulsive urge in all of us to make our resume unique and stand out from the crowd, which brings us to another of the job resume writing mistakes. Forget showy fonts. Always stick to the standard fonts such as Arial, Verdana or Times New Roman. The use of fanciful typefaces might even prevent your resume from filtering through the electronic scanner used by most companies. When job resume writing, it is essential to keep everything short and to the point. So the general rule of thumb is not to let it extend beyond a page or two. The reader should know, after a glance, what you are all about. Using a bulleted point style is the best and most succinct way to list your important and relevant skills. Many people make the classic error of putting far too much information on their resume. Cover letters are the typically the place where you expand upon those key points.

As with many fashion trends in times gone by, the wristwatch was first made hot by royalty — particularly Queen Elizabeth I who was given one in the second 1500s. The 1st widely worn watches were designed exclusively for girls and called wristlets.

Men of the late 19th century and early twentieth century still kept track of time by employing a pocket watch often on a chain. They considered the wristlet a fashion trend that would, like any other trend, appear and vanish, and the watch would at this point never be considered by men as anything except a female bauble for women. The wrist-watch as a handy way to keep time for men really started as a wartime prerequisite. The English military in their battle with S. A. in the boar War in the early 1900s strapped pocket watches to their wrist so that they could hold their weapons at the same time.

The first wrist-watches for men were promoted to the army for men going into active service. I’m gonna cut to the chase on this: you should NOT get a rap special rhyming dictionary. Point.

Wherefore? You may demand why I’m so opposed to this…after all, wouldn’t this assist rappers step up their game? Well, it would, but not any better than a REAL rhyming dictionary.

Here’s why: While you may find a few words in a rap dictionary that wouldn’t be in a regular rhyming dictionary, the opposite is almost always true. Rap lexicons are direction too focused on a genre, and so tend to get rappers who rely on them sound very commonplace and worn out.

After all, what is one of the most general things people say about a great rapper? “His rhymes are so original…”

Unluckily, a mass of younger rappers follow these dictionaries advice, and end up sounding just like the thousands of other rappers that read the same thing. If you want to stand out, you’ve come to use rhymes that no one has ever thought to put together, and consider me, no rapper I’ve ever seen has rhymed “monochromatic” with “melodramatic.”

Imagine what? I got that from a REAL rhyming dictionary.

Words that aren’t in a real rhyming dictionary are initial, too, don’t get me wrong. It’s just that slang are words that are everywhere, and consequently a lot less probably to sound fresh and original. My advice: go with the real deal, and risk sounding original, rather than follow the crowds…

It’s worked for all the greats, and should work for you, too.
