Hire A Band For Wedding Entertainment
A DJ might be a bride’s first instinct in planning wedding entertainment, but a good idea is to look into a live band for wedding music. A live act can add a whole other level of atmosphere and interactivity rather and a disc jockey using CD’s on a sound system.
Sometimes couples choose to go with both, and a DJ plays music for the dancing later on in the evening, and a band plays throughout cocktail time and when food is served. This can be nice to have some smooth jazz or a jazz vocalist performing without being overly loud or being a specific song that people may or may not like. The mood will be set with some soft tunes, and a live act is much more pleasant to listen to over a disc jockey. Sometimes you’ll see this at corporate parties as well.
Live music is much more engaging than a sound system. There’s a synergy between the audience and the performer, where each one feeds off the mood and the result is sublime. A band can get a crowd moving with interactive fun, especially a rock act, with singalongs and can make guests feel as if they’re at a live concert.
Different music styles lend themselves better to the live environment. A rap and R&B themed event might be better off using a deejay, but for rock, country, big band, or Latin music a band is a great idea.
Looking for a group isn’t hard. Ask friends, family, and co-workers for references, use internet sites geared towards brides and weddings, and bridal fairs are also a good place to meet bands and hear them perform without even making appointments. If you have never heard them, ask for a video or compact disc so you can get an idea if they are a good fit.
After deciding on a band, make sure they can provide you with a written contract. If they wont provide one or at least agree to letting you write one up, go with another band. It’s good to make sure you cover all bases on such an important day. Also, ask if they are insured. Most bands should carry a good policy to at the very least cover liability. Some hotels and venues will require entertainers have insurance, so it’s a good idea to ask.
Many groups will let you choose a selection of songs you want heard, but it’s not a good idea to try and dictate ahead of time what songs will be played. Professional acts will know what to play and when, being very sensitive to the ebb and flow of the mood, so trust them. It’s a good idea to give them a short list of favorites, but it’s probably best to just leave it at that.
If you follow these tips, you’ll be well on your to finding a good band for wedding music.
