Chances are you have already read the novel by Audrey Niffenegger – The Time Traveler’s Wife. Now, if you would have, then the chances are that you really did like it a lot. I know I sure did! Now that you have already read this book and have enjoyed it, then you should truly consider watching the movie. It had just been released not too long ago.
Robert Schwentke’s direction does deserve to be lauded but the lead pair of Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams also did a great job portraying the characters of Henry DeTamble and Clare. Though the production team of The Time Traveler’s Wife movie began filming in 2007, the movie didn’t come out in theaters until 2009 because of delayed reshooting schedules. The reason behind that was the wait for the scenery in question to take on the exact same appearance for the reshoots as in the original.
Having watched the movie after reading the book, I felt it was pretty easy to keep up with the plot. For those who haven’t yet read the book or don’t intend to, this movie might definitely be worth checking out too. The seemingly haphazard manner in which it moves with Henry growing older or younger pretty much from scene to scene, you won’t find yourself bored even for a moment.
The plot revolves around the life of Henry who works as a librarian in Chicago. Henry suffers from a genetic disorder that makes him prone to time travelling without any control over when it happens or where he’ll end up. Having found himself transported in a flash several times before, naked and lonely in a foreign place with no clue to indicate whether he’s in the past or the future, Henry teaches himself the basic survival skills. These include picking locks to be able to access clothes.
The 1st time Henry as a grown up is shown; he is meeting the little Henry at his mother’s own accident where she died. Henry also had found himself making many trips to the meadow where the little girl named Clare would be growing up. Throughout the years, Clare and Henry would come to the arrangement that he would inform her of his arrival times before they would happen and she would arrange for his shoes and clothes to be there for him when he would get there. Their love blossoms even thought they have such different backgrounds.
Eventually these two meet at the perfect time in life with Henry never knowing who Clare really is. After he has been told, they had resumed their long ongoing relationship as they have become adults and soon they would get married. This would be what happened as their lives unfold in this amazing and very heartbreaking movie.
