How to Incorrectly Play in Role Playing Games
There are several different kinds of role playing games. There are massive multiplayer online role playing games (MMORPGs), online role playing games in chat rooms, LARPing (live action role playing), paper and dice games, to name a few. In this article, we’ll talk about how to incorrectly play paper and dice games (RPGs).
Tabletop RPGs are a dime a dozen. However, they all have a common element, a common set of rules. I’m not talking about system rules, I’m referring to the rules of social etiquette at the gaming table.
You won’t find rules for playing a role in any of the RPGs. Here are the rules that everyone knows (or should know) but aren’t really written anywhere. If you’re a gamer, you’ll understand if you keep reading.
1) There will be no cheaters at the table. The character sheet is a place for accurate information, not wanted information. Your gaming dice will not be shaved or loaded, and they will be rolled out in the open.
#2: There will be no dictating players. There will be no objections to how others play their character in the game. You will only worry about how you play your character, because you would not want anyone else to control yours.
No powergamers! Stats are not the most important part of a character, contrary to what many would like to believe. His quirks and personality are what you need to focus on.
No metagamers!. Your character is not omnipresent; he doesn’t know everything. When you figure something out that your character would have no chance of figuring out, keep it to yourself.
#5: There will be no godmoding players. Godmoding encompasses cheating, dictating, powergaming, and metagaming, and then surpasses them. He tries to win every situation using whatever means necessary. This is not allowed at all.
