Guitar – A Talent Or A Skill?
Many people out there think that a great guitarist is not made, it is born. You have to be blessed with a talent, you have to be born under a lucky star. Is this true? Is God-given talent really all you need to master this wonderful instrument? Many would like to believe that, but the answer is – no.
It’s a nice excuse, though. People love excuses not to work hard. So when they see a person who is really good at playing guitar, what do they admire? They, of course, admire the talent, something that was simply given. They don’t admire commitment, dedication and years of hard work. It’s more suitable to them to see pass that.
But in reality it has nothing to do with luck. If you want to master a musical instrument, what you need is mainly hard work. Having a natural predisposition – or talent if you will – to learn with more ease is certainly welcome. But you will still have to put a lot of effort in it.
But talent alone is not going to get you very far. You can’t just pick up a guitar and start playing like a pro, just because you are talented. Believe me, it never happened and it never will.
If you want to be good at it, you will need commitment, determination, and a lot of practice. And you will need some sort of lessons. They don’t have to be expensive, you don’t necessarily need a private instructor, although it’s great, if you can afford it, but you do need guidance.
Today, getting lessons is not really a problem anymore; you can get some quality instructions on DVDs for example. Search the internet, you’ll see that there is a lot of choices.
In conclusion, guitar is a learned skill, not a God-given talent. Like any skill it has to be learnt. True, some people find it easier than others, but everyone can learn it. Just remember to practice regularly.
