Learn To Play The Electric Guitar – 3 Ways To Accelerate Your Learning
I could guess why you want to learn to play the electric guitar? You want to learn because there is no cooler feeling in the world than feeling the admiration of others as they watch you jam out some of your favorite tunes on the electric guitar!
It is an amazing feeling when it all comes together and you start to play actual music. And the rush you get strumming some songs is like nothing you have ever experienced.
So, how do you learn to play the electric guitar in the fastest way possible and become a guitar God? Here are 3 tips to kick start your progress:
1. Learn the basic chords – this, in my opinion, is the most boring part! But, it’s essential. You have to learn the basic chords if you want to learn to play the electric guitar. What I initially did was use a book to learn how to read the chords and how to position my fingers. Big mistake – learning by reading a book was horrible because I had no reference point, just some pictures of the chords. I never knew if my fingers were positioned correctly or if the sound was right. You’re much better off either buying a DVD or joining one of the online guitar courses so you can see what the heck to do.
2. Practice, practice, practice – yeah, I know you hear this all the time, “if you want to learn to play the electric guitar, you have to practice!” And practicing is no fun – you just wish you could pick up the guitar and start playing. But it’s not that easy my friend. Do you think Angus Young, Joe Satriani, or Eddie Van Halen just one day picked up the guitar, learned some chords and became a rock star? Nah, didn’t happen. You have to set aside time just about every day to practice to get the chords right and the fingers working. The more you practice, the quicker you’ll become a guitar God.
3. Get some cool jam tracks – once you can move your fingers from chord to chord fluidly, start playing along with some cool jam tracks you like. By doing this you will not only get better and better, but you will have a heck of a lot more fun learning this way. You no doubt will learn to play the electric guitar much quicker when you start playing along with songs.
After these three things, the sky is the limit really because you can start to learn hammer-ons, pull-offs, bending and pinch harmonics (if you are into rock or metal) or you can learn some picking techniques and work on your speed to get that fluid, rocking sound.
