The character of Roy Miller is based on a real life character named Richard Gonzales who was responsible for finding Saddam’s destructive chemical weapons in Iraq.
Amy Ryan is the actress who plays in the leading female role. She is a foreign correspondent with the Wall Street Journal and named Lawrie Dayne. Her job is to investigate the truth behind the US government’s claims regarding mass destruction weapons in Iraq. It is widely believed that Lawrie Dayne is based upon the true story of Judith Miller; she was a journalist with the New York Times.
Additional key roles of Green zone are played by Brendon Gleeson, a CIA chief stationed in Baghdad and named Martin Brown; Greg Kinnear who plays an employee of the Special Intelligence sector named Clark Poundstone; Yigal Naor who plays General Al-Rawi; and Khalid Abdalla who plays an injured citizen of Iraq named Freddy. Freddy is noted as a fan of Bryan Adams.
