Diamond Ranch Academy Healing Teens Through Sports and Art
The Diamond Ranch Academy, located in the southern end of Utah, is a boarding school and a teen residential program. This means the school, accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools (NAAS), helps families and teens recover and heal from addictions and behavior issues.
Like any boarding school, or normal school, Diamond Ranch Academy understands the importance sports and arts play in the development of youth. This is even more critical for teens that have struggled to find creative or physical alternatives to life choices.
A school with a balance of sports and arts while also acting as a teen residential program helps teens overcome addiction and behavior while also promoting education, athletics, and creativity. In fact this has been well document in medical journals. An article published in the Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise: January 1999 talked about the importance of encouraging teens and youth to play sports that suited their interests and even talked about the effects sports had later in adulthood.
Have you suffered from the pain, anguish, worry, concern, doubt, and frustration of a child making wrong decisions? Do you feel a certain accountability and responsibility for the bad decisions your child is making? Even though everyone you know and love tells you its not your fault the cloud of doubt lingers over all parents who have seen their son or daughter follow a path of unhappiness. The truth is the healing process cant start until the child is able to overcome their addiction and/or behavior issues and is taught to understand the consequences of their decisions and how to communicate with those around them.
There is a reason almost every school in the world promotes physical activity and competitiveness. There is a reason schools provide creative opportunities to learn and grow. At the Diamond Ranch Academy we have seen how valuable these resources are in helping teens overcome addiction and behavior issues.
The ultimate purpose of this article has to really highlight the importance, not just in a school or residential program environment, of physical fitness and creative output. The key isnt to force your son or daughter into either … but allow them to explore their interests and encourage them every step of the way.
