Many people argue about Vinyl and the “old good quality”. There is a “sound fingerprint” that is lost when music is “compressed” into digital format. I call it “binary sound” and the human ear hears music in analogue sound and that is why music on vinyl sounds so much better.

In fact, ask any musician (many of who are vinyl record collectors) and they can tell you what compressing the music into digital sound does to the music; that “sound fingerprint” is lost.

As for my opinion, music wasn’t meant to be heard as a bunch of 1′s and 0′s compressed together to form the sound, and vinyl records have been around since sound reproduction began; and quite frankly, aren’t going anywhere (remember the reel to reel tapes, eight-tracks and cassettes? vinyl withstood those sound formats for a reason, the sound quality)

I had to chuckle when I read about this marketing ploy-they have combined a CD and vinyl into one product. One side is the music in CD format and the other side is a 3 minute vinyl record. Now, I don’t think this is the answer, but I would assume if you can get a hold of one of these, do so, I would think they may be highly collectible once the dust settles.

Although a lot of bands still release their product via vinyl or CD, the distribution methods are changing, which to me, is a good thing; a music lover can get to hear so much more music that they may have otherwise not have heard. Many bands are releasing their music independent of the record labels but will continue to release music on vinyl, because that is what the consumer is looking for.

Many of the very best family films are adapted from wonderful children’s literature. Beloved children’s books which have stood the test of time often make wonderful family movies. Many of these movies are great on their own but a question is how closely do the movies stick to the storyline of the book?

A recently available movie adaptation from a children’s book is “The Spiderwick Chronicles” by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi. There are actually five books within the series but only the one film to date. The film follows the adventure of a family members as they move into a new home. The children find a odd old book that leads them to a world with elves, goblins, trolls, dwarves along with other creatures. The movie is from 2008.

A fantastic children’s book that has been converted into a couple of movies over the years is “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by Roald Dahl. The book was first published in 1964 and in 1971 the movie “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” starring Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka came out. Another movie called “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” came out in 2005, with Johnny Depp playing the lead of Willy Wonka. Both movies had been quite true to the book.

Certainly one of every one’s favorite kid’s books seems to be “Charlotte’s Web” by E.B. White. The book was very first published in ’52 and it has never lost its popularity. It is one of the most precious children’s books of all times. It had been first made into an animated feature film in ’73 A live action movie version was released in December 2006. The two films followed the plot of the book nearly exactly.
