Classic movies are still very popular, they remind us of times that were simpler and much more relaxed. The talented people who appeared in them, especially in musicals, were definitely one of a kind. Even today, their talents remain unmatched. Though they may use all possible technology, modern movies do not even come close. Many still argue over the best tap dances ever.

At the top of the list of the best tap dances, there are usually five performers. Their dances featured incredible energy and enthusiasm, they just loved what they were doing. Many modern movie makers would not dream of featuring tap dancing. The frenetic need for fast cars and explosions almost caused it to become a forgotten art.

Gene Kelly is very well known for his excellent performances. He did very notable tap dances in several movies. Most people, however, cannot decide if his best was done in Singin in the Rain or Moses Supposes. Both contained great dances that could not have been done as well by any other talent.

The stair dance, which was performed in Stormy Weather by the Nicholas Brothers is also a top contender. No director could have planned for the elements that arose from their energy and agility. No one can say they were not an incredibly talented pair. Notably, even Fred Astaire claimed it was the best tap dance done in a movie.

The one that the largest percentage of people pick as their favorite was performed by Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Their performance to Begin the Beguine is still one of the most popularly viewed videos online. They were so in sync with each other, that it was like watching magic happen on your screen.

It really does not matter which one you decide is your favorite, you cannot deny that all of them were incredible performances. These performers undoubtedly did some of the best tap dances ever. All had unrivaled talents that they clearly liked using.

Many wonder if the iPad could change their computer at home. If you’re replacing your only computer, an iPad is not good enough as a device to replace your primary machine. If it’s used to replace a secondary machine that is mostly for internet or email, it will work. Why is it not good enough for a primary computer?

The biggest problem is that it does not have any USB ports. Without having these ports it brings up some serious problems. How will you get the videos and photographs on your camera onto your iPad? What about printing? How will one sync external hardware to the device? How can you backup?

Without USB support it leaves you in a position where most of your external devices can’t be used. Any new hardware that comes out that you could use won’t work.

Another issue is the data that is already on your computer. Music, photos, and movies could be imported to the device through iTunes. How about other file formats that you’re using or have saved? You will have to find a way to get these onto the device and have software that can run those file formats. Currently there isn’t any known solution.

Finally, there are several missing pieces. If you enjoy watching videos sites besides YouTube, none of these will work as the Flash plugin is missing. This means network television sites and Hulu won’t work at all on the unit.

Here are some interesting facts about the best tap dancers of all time. Bill Robinson ‘Bojangles’ was born in 1878. He began his dancing career when he was 6-years old. At 12-years old he joined ‘The South Before The War’ traveling company. His first performance in front of a white audience did not happen until he was 50-years old. He acted in movies during the 1930′s with famous starts like Will Rogers and Shirley Temple. While visiting a dance class, he performed a tap dancing routine for one hour without repeating the same step twice. He insisted that his feet were responding to the music and his head did not know anything about it.

John ‘Bubbles’ Sublett was the greatest improvising dancer of all time. He created a real innovative style of tap dance known as the ‘rhythm tap’. He was 6-years old when he joined up with Ford Lee ‘Buck’ Washington. They worked together as ‘Buck and Bubbles’ until Buck past away in 1955. The team was featured in more than twelve Hollywood productions. After Buck died, he toured with Bob Hope in Vietnam entertaining the troops.

Gene Kelly was born in 1912 in Pittsburgh, PA. He taught dancing in their family-owned studio for six years before moving to New York. He landed his first big break when he was cast in Rodgers and Hart musical ‘Pal Joey.’ He won an honorary Oscar in 1952 for ‘his versatility as an actor, singer, director, dancer and specifically for his brilliant achievements in the art of choreography on film’.

Fred Astaire was born in 1899 in Omaha, NE. He began to dance at the age of seven, with his sister Adele. They danced together until she retired in 1932. He began his movie career in 1933 dancing with Cyd Charisse, Eleanor Powell, Ginger Rogers and Judy Garland. His singing, though untrained, was admired by some of the greatest songwriters at that time. His choreography is famous for its inventiveness, wit and musicality.

Gregory Hines was tap dancing when he was 5-years old. He performed as part of the family act of ‘Hines, Hines and Dad’ with his brother and father. He performed in numerous Broadway productions and in 1992 won a Tony for ‘Jelly’s Last Jam’. He was a great actor and outstanding ‘tap dancer’. In 2001, he starred and produced a Showtime original film, ‘BoJangles’ where he played tap legend Bill Robinson.

Ann Miller was born in 1923. She started dancing in San Francisco at the age of thirteen, after telling them she was eighteen. Lucille Ball discovered her there and she ended up getting a contract with RKO. She was famed for her speed at tap dancing. Her film career effectively ended in 1956 as the studio system lost steam to television, but she remained active in the theatre and on television.

Eleanor Powell born in 1912 was well known for her flamboyant solo tap dancing. She started performing in 1923 with the Vaudeville Kiddie revue. After moving to Hollywood in 1935 she got signed with MGM. ‘Broadway Melody of 1936′ was her first starring role, the audience loved her enthusiasm, endless energy and magnificent dancing. In ‘Broadway Melody of 1940′ she starred with Fred Astaire, they danced to a Cole Porter song which resulted in one of the greatest tap sequences in film history. These were some of the best tap dancers of all time.

Narrative fighting is an online game where two or more people compete in a fictional battle, by describing what they would do to the other person. Usually the game is conducted using avatars, i.e. each person pretends to be control, or pretends to be, a fictional character of some sort. For instance, one person can claim to be a dragon, and the other can claim to be a knight.

This game is usually conducted in either a chat room, or in a forum, depending on the communication devices that are available.

While the game can be played with just two players, there is often a third person who acts as referee present. If a referee is not used it can lead to disputes between the two players. A referee ensures that an impartial third person is there to keep the fight moving forward.

A game of narrative combat begins when one of the two fighters is chosen to go first. The one who goes first then has to type out what their character is going to do to the other character. For instance “my dragon breathes fire at you.” The second player then has to type out what their defense is, i.e. “I raise my shield and block the fire.

At this point if there is no referee, the players will have to continue attacking and defending until someone allows themselves to be hurt. This is more akin to play acting then actually fighting however, because the choice of who wins is decided mutually.

If there is a referee however, at the end of the second players defense, the referee can come up with an outcome based on both players text. For instance “the dragon breathes fire, but the knight blocks it with his shield, but the shield grows hot and he has to drop it.” In general the referee should award advantage to the player whose description was more creative and well written.

The game can end in a number of different ways. Some referees like to assign points, counting each hit as a lost point, until someone has no points left. Others like to let the fight happen naturally until someone’s actions kill the other. In either case it will be up to the ref to decide the winner based on the attacks and defenses that are suggested by the players.

The advantage of narrative combat is that it gets you writing in a directly competitive way. You have to be more creative than the other person, or you are going to lose. It’s like a writing exercise, that forces creativity out of you.

The conflict does not have to be limited to two people. You can have combat with several people, each taking their turns, although this can get rather complex. You can also have each person controlling multiple non player characters, or characters that they make up and direct. In this way you can actually have a narrative war between two armies.

Narrative combat is not a new invention. Thousands of kids have played the magic game, where they come up with spells and counter spells back and forth until someone pulls something so clever that the other cant counter it. However, when in written form it takes on a kind of literary life. It becomes a form of tandem creation in which two or more people build a story of conflict.

Just around the corner is the release of the Summer blockbuster film, Iron Man 2, and along with it are a the new Iron Man 2 Action Figure Collection. The varied sets are the Iron Man 2 Action Figure Movie series, the Iron Man 2 Action Figure Concept series, the Iron Man 2 Action Figure Comic Series and the Armor Tech deluxe series.

The Iron Man 2 Action Figure Tech Deluxe series is a true standout over the rest with an incredible amount of detail. Intended for collectors, not children, the packaging has warnings about sharp edges and choking hazards. The items in this series are Juggernaut Mission, Negative Zone Mission, and Shockwave Mission. The most impressive of these is the Negative Zone edition which comes with four missile accessories.The figure is a bit top heavy, but comes with a base to stand and display. The amount of detail in these are much like what was seen in the Star Wars Unleashed range of toys.

The comics series has five toys available at this time, Stealth, Original War Machine, Original, Classic Armor, and the Crimson Dynamo. The best of this lot is easily the Original War Machine. Modeled directly from the comics character, there are some differences between this and the character from the movie, but he looks amazing. The amazing evolution of the amount of work that goes into figures is really evident with this range. They look fantastic.

Younger audiences will love the new Iron Man 2 Action Figure additions to the Super Hero Squad and Might Muggs collectibles. These new editions reflect new armors as seen in the movie. The Marvel Universe collection of toys has added a few selections as well.
