The Vigier Guitar Story – A History
The Vigier is more than a guitar, it’s one man’s quest to create the best guitar ever. The work of a lone French craftsman, working in a small room in Grigny, Vigiers are pioneered to give that je ne sais quoi.
The name is now synonymous with innovation and they’re endorsed by the great guitar heroes all around the world. Their so called ‘family of artists’ includes Roger Glover of Deep Purple, Butler Geezer of Black Sabbath, U2′s Clayton Adams and tapping pioneer Stanley Jordon. Musicians who would have been hindered without Vigier’s future fest.
In 1983 the Passion series arrived; flat fretboard, low action guitars that allowed tapping innovator Stanley Jordon to develop his technique. Since then we’ve been given bolt on necks, the Excalibur series and iconic GV cutaway. This year they released the Christophe Godin Excalibur, complete with Godin’s image etched on the lower edge.
Their biggest breakthrough has been the use of carbon fibre technology. But they also pioneered the first fretless; a guitar that would prove so revolutionary it took a decade for the world to catch on. In 17 years the sold only one, until it Bumblefoot used the new Surfretter and the world went mad.
This year they released the Christophe Godin Excalibur, marking a decade of collaboration by modifying the Excalibur Supra and etching Godin’s image on the lower edge. And 2010 is the 15th anniversary of 10/90 neck system; 10% carbon 90% wood; light weight longer ringing notes and maple quality tone. Vigier are widely regarded the greatest guitar builders, hand crafting instruments since 1980 so that when it comes to guitars, a Vigier is the double royale with cheese.
