If you are a serious lover of comedy films, then “Get Him to the Greek” is the ideal movie for you not to miss, and worth spending 2 hours, 109 minutes to be precise, in your nearest cinema theatre. The film, which hit the worldwide screens on June 4, 2010, was written and directed by Nicholas Stoller. Universal Pictures were the distributor for the $40 million budget film that collected gross revenue of $17.4 million in the first week. Lyle Workman handled the music for the movie while Judd Apatow was the chief producer for the film.

Russell Brand plays the role of Aldous Snow in the movie, as a rock star and releases a song called “African Child” that narrates the problems faced by the people in Africa. Unfortunately, the song gets negative popularity and was described as the next worst thing that could have ever happened to Africa since the miserable apartheid. The film has something for everybody who loves watching comedy movies. Judd Apatow did not disappoint the viewers with his focus on unusual moments, humor and sex drugs, some serious moments and the unusual of depicting film trappings. A rock-and-roll film from Apatow’s stable with comedy making a big difference is worth watching, to say the least. In essence, the film is about the rock star, Aldous Snow, who, unfortunately ruined his own life and is attempting to revive his career once again. Russell Brand, playing the role of Aldous Snow in the move, was at his best, to say the least.

Jonah Hill, who played a prominent role in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, handled an entirely new role in this movie, as Allen Green. Working for a record company, Allen Green wants to re-ignite the fame and glory of Aldous Snow and fixes him for the 10th anniversary at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. The plot for the film, in simple terms, revolves around the efforts of Allen Green to get Snow to make it to the big show, and the unfolding events form the part of the story.

The story, handled by the director Nicholas Stoller himself, was well handled with a string of good jokes and funny developments, ably handled by good supporting roles from Elizabeth Moss, Colm Meaney and P. Diddy.

2009 was an incredible year for movies. It was the first year that the Academy expanded the list of best picture nominees to 10 and it was only fitting. Every film on that list deserved to be there.

Since the Oscars expanded to 10 entries for best picture, it’s harder to sort the good from the bad. Here are some of my favorite films from 2009.

Simply put, I couldn’t breathe during the Hurt Locker. It was that suspenseful. The cinematography and directing in this Iraq War commentary piece is outstanding. Kathryn Bigelow did an unbelievable job and deserved to win the 2009 Academy award for Best Picture of the Year. I think the award for Best Director should have gone to someone else though…

James Cameron continues to amaze us with his incredible imagination and brilliant methods for presenting his visions to us. The 3d technology in Avatar was unlike anything I’ve ever seen.

Its no wonder this Avatar has become the highest grossing movie of all time. If you didn’t have a chance to see Avatar, it is going to be rereleased in IMAX after the summer is over.

I can’t argue with the Hurt Locker winning the big prize, but my personal favorite movie of the year was District 9.

If you didn’t see it, District 9 manages to combine the story of an alien invasion in South Africa with elements of the apartheid period. It is more than just a science fiction and action movie; it is a (somewhat) realistic take on how an alien invasion could play out.

I truly loved District 9 and felt as if I never knew where it would go next. There is an endless list of adjectives I can use to describe this one, but words can’t do it justice. If you are a fan of science fiction and/or suspenseful movies, then this is a must see.

One of my favorite bands since the 1990s was Ben Folds Five. A very unique band, they came up with a fresh sound last decade and took the music world by storm, producing some of the best music of the decade.

Despite the fact that Ben Folds is an incredible musician who has had a great career going solo this past decade, I still think that his best work was with the backing support of his other two band mates, Darren Jessee and Robert Sledge.

It’s not the same without a talented bassist and drummer backing him up, not to mention the subtle but effective backup vocals. This was truly a great band.

While Ben Folds Five was together, there were three full-length CDs with original music. There were some other albums that had live performances and some studio music that was never released, but this article will focus on the band’s three official full lengths.

Their first album was their self-titled debut, and it was simply an amazing one. From the start, Jackson Cannery opened up with some raw energy that many had never heard on an album before. Philosophy was a great change of pace with a mesmerizing piano solo.

The band’s next album was Forever and Ever Amen, released in 1997. Riding some commercial success on the heels of Brick, the band became bigger with this release. Still, it was the lesser known songs on this CD that really shone through.

After Forever and Ever Amen, the band came out with its final release at the end of the decade. This album was called the Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner, and while there were some standout songs without a doubt, it wasn’t as generally consistent as the others.

My vote goes to the band’s second album, Forever and Ever Amen. I think the band was at its peak here, both creatively and energetically. This is one of my favorite albums of all-time and I know of many others who share the belief.
