Has The Fun Left The Video Games
There have been some problems over that past few years with internet bootleggers really hitting the music industry and the movie industry very hard with illegal downloads. This is however not really the case with video games, where these games still mostly get sold in their original versions and piracy is less of a problem. Although there are places where these games can be downloaded it is much harder to get them to work on the respective platforms out there. This has led to consoles like the Playstation 3 and Xbox not really coming under as big a threat as the others.
Video games have become very popular over the past few years and there has been a very notable increase in the budgets spent on developing these games. These days games have some of the most amazing graphics and many of these are almost movie like. One of the prime examples is something like the Final Fantasy franchise that has been at the front of the technological pack for a number of years. They are constantly pushing the technological boundaries and turn out amazing products. There is however one definite downside. It looks like the fun and challenging gameplay has suffered.
I have drawn a comparison with the older games I used to play on my consoles at home. The games were not as amazing in the graphics and realism side of things, but they were very playable and kept you coming back for more. Through simpler controls it was fairly easy to learn how to play the games and took a long time to master. This is however not the case with many of the newer games these days.
Many of the games these days just look and feel like you are part of an interactive movie and as a result you will almost definitely only play it once. After you have worked through the game for the first time you will know the basic story and if you do play again, you will probably only be re-tracing your footsteps.
There are exceptions such as the Grand Theft Auto series and this could be partly why it has become so popular. Even those games are starting to become stale now as nothing new has been introduced to them in years. We are still running around, completing missions, stealing cars and the only noticeable difference is the graphics. I do understand that the look of the game is very important as gamers expect improvement, but seriously what has happened to the fun?
