European Blackjack With Side Bets
European Blackjack is a well-known game of the game which most frequently features a side bet game for additional ways to boost your bankroll.
The side bets offered in European blackjack vary depending on the specific version of the game and from one casino to another but today were going to talk about two interesting variations: High Streak and Hi-Lo 13.
European Blackjack Rules
For this review were considering the European Blackjack offered at 32Red Casino, which is played using 2 decks of cards and offers a house advantage of 0.46%, one of the most attractive you can hope for.
European blackjack is most frequently played using 6 decks of cards but as with any other blackjack game the number of decks used can vary, which in turn increases/decreases the casinos edge, so check before playing.
Players are allowed to Split hands but only on a pair of 10s but other than this the game is played as per usual after splitting.
When the dealers up card is an Ace, you can buy Insurance and get a 2:1 payout in case the dealer does in fact have a blackjack.
Doubling Down is allowed. The limitation of Doubling Down is that players may only do so when the combined hand value of the first 2 cards is nine, ten and eleven and only one more card will be drawn after Doubling Down.
Any winning bet apart from natural blackjacks, which pays at 3:2, return bets at 1:1 – double your money.
High Streak Payouts
In European High Streak the player can bet on winning two, three, four or five hands in a row and get payouts as high as 10:1 of the original stake amount.
This side bet is “triggered” when you win the first hand and the payout is increased with any following win.
For example, if players win two hands in a row, this will pay out the side bet at 1:1, doubling the original stake.
Once the player wins 3 hands in a row, the bet will return at 2:1.
Once players get a fourth consecutive win, the payout is increased to 5:1 and if theres a 5th consecutive win, theres a massive payout of 10:1 or the original stake amount.
How to Win the Hi-Lo 13 Bet
If the odds of Blackjack High Streak dont tickle your fancy, Blackjack Hi-Lo is another option that offers great chances of winning with attractive payouts.
In this popular version of blackjack youre simply betting on what the combined value of your first two cards will be: Below, Equal or Above 13.
If you correctly guess that the combined value of your first two cards is Below or Above 13, your bet will return at 1:1 – double your money, but if you successfully guess that its Equal to 13 then your bet is returned at 10:1.
Now lets look at the probabilities of these 3 bets. The chances of you drawing a hand that totals 11 in value are just 4.73% and theyre even smaller for any number below 11.
If players were to bet on a total combined value of 12 (below) or 13 (equal), the chances of winning the bet would be 9.47%, which makes these two bets the second most likely to win. The most likely number to be drawn is actually 20 which has a probability of 10.65%.
To conclude, Blackjack Hi-Lo 13 and Blackjack High Streak are two interesting games of online blackjack that offer great fun plus attractive ways of boosting your bankroll with the thrills of a side bet.
