Burning Spear Vinals Spanning Forty Years
The earliest Burning Spear vinals would be highly prized if they where originals. It is unlikely that you would find any of the first singles such as Door Peep which was released in 69. Several more recordings where release on the Studio One label of Clement Dodd before the original trio met with Jack Ruby in 1975.
They then released two singles, Marcus Garvey and Slavery Days, before releasing the Marcus Garvey LP. It featured the Black Disciples and was an immediate hit which led to them being signed by Island Records. There was some discontent over the way Island re-mastered the tracks and speeded some of them up.
From then on Winston Rodney wanted to have his own label but still release a few more recordings on Island Records. Garvey’s Ghost was one of these as well as Man in the Hills. By 76 Rodney was ready to leave his former founding members and Jack Ruby behind. The name would now refer to him alone without Rupert Wellington and Delroy Hinds.
Dry and Heavy was the first album on which he was no longer a band. In 1977 he also recorded his first live show in London at the Rainbow Theatre where he was supported by Aswad. This album was known was called Live!
Aswad also featured on the next release called Social Living which came out in the following year. The year after that a dub version was made called Living Dub. He then left Island and would not work with them again until the early 90′s.
He then signed with EMI in 1980. His first recording for them was made at the studios of Bob Marley called Tough Gong. This made it quite a significant album since it was the first time the two artists who grew up in the same town ever got work together. Since then there have been many Grammy Award nominated albums that are still available as Burning Spear vinals. burning spear vinals
