Symptoms of Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome

by Sandra Wilson

If you have had your tubes tied and then begin experiencing problems with your body, it could be you have post tubal ligation syndrome, also known by the initials PTLS. Others simply call it Post Tubal Syndrome or PTS.

Regardless of whether or not the medical community as a whole believes in ptls or not, you still are having problems. No doubt you have been researching on the web and learned about some of the different symptoms associated with this syndrome. Below you will find a few first hand accounts of the symptoms some suffering women have gone through probably just like you.

Among the stories I share her is the one of Shannon’s symptoms. She had a loss of libido, anxiety attacks, mood swings, weight gain, depression and acne. Her periods had turned awful. While they were only 7 days long, she was unable to leave her home for the first two days due to extremely heavy flow. Her words were that she felt on “the verge of hemorrhaging” with very large clots. She also had terrible pms.

Dannygirl ( a tubal-reversal.net forum name) had headaches, severe weight gain, mood swings, loss of libido, depression and pain with her period. She also suffered hair loss as many women do that suffer from post tubal ligation syndrome. She said her hair came out by the handfuls. Her hair loss was extreme enough that other people were noticing. Again, not something you want to suffer with in your 20s.

Amber was another young lady who suffers from pts in her 20s. She has no sex drive, hair loss, and an irregular period. Seems that these are major symptoms that we run into over and over again. I don’t think the doctors can put these down to aging as Amber is only in her mid 20s at the time of writing this article.

Linda, who was 21 when she had her tubal ligation, suffers with the usual mood swings, heavier periods and headaches. She also has to endure the regret and emptiness of making such a big decision at such a young age. It’s fortunate that some doctors are making their patients wait till later in life to make such decisions that will affect the rest of their lives these days. However, unfortunately, since tying the tubes is seen as an effective method of permanent birth control, never mind the potential side effects, not enough consideration is given to the emotional and psychological effects of such surgery.

If this article has helped you put a name to what you yourself have been suffering, then I feel it has been well worth the writing. I thank the ladies who let me share their symptoms in an effort to help other women who themselves might be suffering from post tubal ligation syndrome. Seek out some support. If you can’t find it from your doctor or off line friends, then try to find it online. Not only will your online friends give you virtual support, they may also be able to help you find an alternative that just might help you overcome the symptoms of ptls.

Easy Tips to Spruce Up Your Treadmill Workouts

by Torri Tompson

Growing bored with an exercise routine is one of the top reasons that many people slack, or quit, exercising. If you are growing bored walking on your treadmill, there are many things you can do to make treadmill workouts more interesting. Here are some ideas that can keep your treadmill workouts fun and interesting:

Music, CDs, TV and Movies. Most everyone has a favorite style of music. Use this to your advantage. Listening to your favorite music during treadmill workouts can make the time pass faster and it also helps you focus more. If music isn’t your thing, you may prefer to listen to audio books or motivational CDs. Treadmill workouts are also a great time to catch up on TV shows and watch movies.

Pyramid Walking. Increase your walking pace by .1 mph every minute for 15 minutes. Then, slow your walking pace by .1 mph every minute for 15 minutes. This is an awesome mental and physical challenge.

Dancers. If dancing is a favorite pastime, you can build up your strength and increase your balance by walking backwards on your treadmill. Keep your pace steady and even. This should only be tried by people who have good coordination!

Numbers – 1, 2, 3. For one minute, count how many steps you take during your workout. The following minute, give your mind a break. Start counting your steps again for one minute. Counting steps makes treadmill workouts fly by for some people. It also is nice to see how your foot speed increases over time.

Circuit Training. To give your body an aerobic and strength training workout, walk for five minutes. Then, get off of your machine and do lunges, push-ups, crunches or work with weights for one minute. Repeat this process throughout your workout.

Stretching. Most everyone loves stretching. A very enjoyable thing to incorporate into treadmill workouts is stretching. Walk 10 minutes, get off your machine and do stretching exercises for five minutes. Repeat this until your workout time is over.

Climb and Walk. Someone who wants to take it to the next level can put a stepper next to their treadmill and take turns stepping for five minutes and walking for five minutes.

Chart Your Progress. Pick a place you have always wanted to visit and chart your mileage there after each workout. See how long it takes you to walk to Hawaii, China or the Bahamas.

Heart Rate Training. Heart rate training involves finding out your maximum heart rate and cycling in and out of different heart rate zones for two or three minute intervals. This type of treadmill workout shouldn’t last more than 20 or 30 minutes and you shouldn’t do it more than three times per week because it is intense.

This is just a small snippet of the things that you can do to bring fun back into your treadmill workouts. Find out what works for you and don’t be afraid to change it up. Chasing away boredom is crucial to keeping your exercise program going long term.

5 Tips To Help You Stop Smoking

by Tim Green

Having been a smoker for over forty years I know that trying to give up smoking will not be easy. I have tried in the past and succeeded for a while but then fell back into my old ways again. Quitting smoking is a difficult thing to do so I decided to read up on ways to quit smoking.

The way most people tackle the task of quitting smoking is by simply going cold turkey. They stop smoking and try to remain strong and determined enough to fight the craving and desire for cigarettes. Many people have succeeded in this way and I guess if you are astrong willed person this may work for you. I am not so sure this is the way for me to give up cigarettes as I suspect I would just start all over again.

You may be able to deal with your body craving nicotine but what do you do with your hands? If you have become used to holding a cigarette between your fingers then the absence of that can be a problem for some people. Overcoming this physical habit can be done with a dummy cigarette which gives you the reassuring feeling you need. Some think these are silly but it can make all the difference between succeeding or not.

One old fashioned but sometimes effective approach is to smell an ashtray every time you fancy a cigarette. Even smokers with their reduced sense of smell and taste find the smell of an ashtray objectionable so this might be enough to convince you to stop smoking and even if it just puts off smoking a cigarette for a short while that is a help.

One of the more recent developments has been nicotine patches which you fix onto your skin. The patches release a certain amount of nicotine into your skin which helps prevent your body craving the chemical. With your body’s habit satisfied you only need to get yourself over the idea of smoking and patches, perhaps, combined with one or other of the ideas mentioned here might do the trick for you.

The idea that inserting needles into parts of your body could stop you smoking seems a little odd. However, acupuncture has been around for thousands of years and has had some success in stopping people smoking. My brother stopped smoking for several years after acupuncture so it can work and if you have tried everything else to stop you smoking then you might want to give acupunctue a go.

Willpower is the key to controlling any habit and if you can strenthen your resolve to stop smoking then that will help you enormously. This seems to be the idea with hypnosis so that your subconcious mind becomes more convinced that you do not want to smoke a cigarette at all. I have not tried this myself but it seems that some people have found this a very effective way of overcoming their desire for a cigarette.

Weight Loss Product Reviews

by Tony Grew

The internet grows by the day and the availability of information is greater than ever before but simply trying to decide which pages to view is a major problem for most of us so anything that can simplify the process is worthwhile and we are fortunate because there are lots of product review sites appearing all over the internet.

These review websites help guide us through the thousands of pages and products to find what may be more appropriate for our needs. Having another person look and find what they think are useful products saves us the time and energy needed to do it for ourselves.

I wanted to lose weight and found a weight loss product review site. The site reviews three different products relating to the weight loss subject area. The products are offer different approaches and the reviews explain what each one offers. All the guides reviewed are written to help people who want to lose weight and give them a program to achieve that aim.

The very interesting different approaches are encouraging weght loss through boosting your metabolism to help your body burn off the calories more effectively. Next we have a lady doctor who claims that research shows the colon to be the key part of the body if you want to lose weight and finally we see a fat into muscles guide which talks about the right foods to eat written by a body builder.

Weight loss is a huge market and it is no surprise that there are thousands of people promoting various different approaches. Each approach has it’s advocates and success stories but so many people have tried dieting and failed to succeed. These three products seem to be a little different to your normal, stop eating, advice so you may consider these are well worth trying.

The site I was looking at is mentioned below if you want to take a look for yourself. I thought it was very useful as it introduced me to a couple of products that I would not have seen and they seem to be an interesting alternative to the usual diet advice which is simply to eat less. I need more detailed guidance than that.

I have sometimes been completely overwhelmed by the internet and spent whole evening trying to find out about things so a website that simply guides me through just three products about weight loss was quite refreshing and I thought it saved me a lot of time and was very useful.

A product review such as the ones on this site can give us the important information without all the sales jargon and mumbo jumbo. It is only one persons opinion, of course, so you must make up your own mind about the products recommended but we are given the information the reviewer considers important and the products all come with a money back guarantee anyway so if you were to buy and be unhappy with the product you could claim a refund.

Proven Tips for Quick Weight Loss

by Robert Slim

Today, the number of people battling obesity has skyrocketed. Many doctors have worked long hours to gain a much better understanding of this serious problem. Unfortunately, individuals who are obese and even overweight have a number of problems to include low self-confidence and health risks.

With so much attention being placed on weight within our society, several proven methods for quick weight loss have been identified. Now, when we say “quick”, this still means to lose weight fast but healthy. To lose weight and fast, we are confident that you will find the information contained in this article beneficial.

Diet is a key dynamic associated with quick weight loss. In addition to eating healthy foods, it is also about the number of calories being consumed. For instance, experts have discovered that five to six smaller meals a day is actually better than three large meals.

By eating 1,200 to 1,500 calories a day but the right foods, people are not as hungry. Of course, food has to be smart choices such as more fresh fruits and vegetables, lean protein, and low fat dairy. When someone feels like snacking, it is important to stick with foods such as yogurt or air popped popcorn.

A great method associated with quick weight loss is also to get daily exercise. There are many great options, walking being one of the best, which is a great way to start. Then, a person can begin to add in weight training and some type of aerobic activity, which will burn calories while increasing the body’s metabolism.

With exercise, the key is to get the heart so it pumps at its best performance. Then, when someone puts in the effort to lose weight fast, he or she will find that self-confidence improves. Soon, the person finds that he or she is not only feeling and looking better but also acting differently from losing weight.

Even water plays an important role to lose weight fast. Water is actually much more important for losing weight than most people think. In addition to helping with better digestion, drinking more water will make a person feel less hungry.

The recommendation by medical professions is to drink at least six glasses of water daily. Sometimes, this is easy to do and sometimes it is not. To meet the recommendation, foods such as watermelon that have high water content are also great choice.

Then, to lose weight fast, the individual has to have the mind set to succeed. Unfortunately, lots of diets fail simply because there is no determination to do so. Therefore, if a person is interested in getting rid of obesity and excessive weight, it has to begin within the mind.

Being positive keeps a person motivated, pushing him or her to exercise and eat right. With the right, initial mindset, a person is more ready to lose weight fast, but most importantly, to lose pounds realistically. Again, the goal is to lose weight steadily and in a healthy way so it stays off.

Look, no one wants to diet but by looking at the end, the results of the hard work, then it will be much easier to see that quick weight loss is possible. Just remember that before any diet or exercise program is used to lose weight, a doctor should be consulted. Then, once the individual knows that he or she is ready to go, the quicker that person gets started the quicker the weight will be gone and health will be achieved.

Eczema Explained

by David Taylor

Eczema is a skin disorder that affects as many as ten to twenty percent of the world’s population. It causes the skin to turn red and itch, and creates flaky patches of skin.

The reason why it occurs is because the skin becomes inflamed due to irritants present in the environment or because of other physical conditions. In fact, eczema can strike each and every one of us, though those with a prior family history of it will be more likely to suffer from this disease than others.

For now, a cure for eczema remains unknown, however treatment is readily available to lessen the effects of it. The purpose of having skin on your body is to protect you from infections and diseases. When the skin is having trouble performing this function due to external triggers, the reaction can result in eczema.

Eczema knows no age limits, and can affect adults as well as infants and children. When the disease is observed in infants, it will appear on the cheeks and forehead, scalp or neck, as well as the forearms and potentially the legs. In many cases there will be patches of skin that will turn red and become very itchy. These patches are known to develop on the neck, face, inside of elbows, ankles and the knees.

There are several different forms of eczema that can develop depending on the type and nature of the irritant. One of the most common forms of eczema is atopic dermatitis. Patients with this type of eczema are also at risk for developing food allergies, asthma and hay fever.

Another type of such skin condition is the one known as occupational eczema in which allergic reactions may occur due to the nature of the environment at a person’s workplace. Yet another form of this disease is known as nummular eczema in which you will notice splotched skin which condition can be further exacerbated if one continues to wear tight fitting clothes that will only help in irritating the skin further.

Eczema has no known cure yet, though a change in lifestyle will be effective in treating it. Furthermore, it is best to keep the skin well-hydrated in order to prevent a flare-up of this disease.

Fighting Food Cravings- Is it really Life and Death?

by Lorelei F

I want to talk a bit today about my father, who passed away about a week ago. I have been thinking a lot about him in conjunction with this blog, as his major illness was diabetes- the disease of chronic, lifetime overeating. It mostly goes hand in hand with food addiction and cravings.

I remember back to the days of my childhood. My dad and I used to have a grand old time together sharing fun, sharing food- ice-cream, donuts, and cake being our favorite things. When I was with my dad, there was always a treat in store. In those days I had never even heard of food addiction or the concept of immense cravings.

In short my dad loved to eat and so did I. It was one of the many levels upon which we met. We were very connected and we loved each other a lot.

But as I watched my dad in the last years of his life, I remember thinking so frequently “What a price pleasure in food can exact.” As time went by my father could hardly walk due to his diabetes. He couldn’t see very well. Food began to have no flavor at all and he had a hard time swallowing. He spent his days dozing listlessly in a chair, and was sad beyond measure at the loss of all that he had ever enjoyed in life.

And what is odd to note is that by the end my father had lost all capacity to eat anything at all. And in reality, he died from not being able to eat.

So what can the rest of us take from this whole experience? There is no question that it is not easy to live without eating sugar, wheat and flour- and a whole other host of potentially addictive foods. Food manufacturers flood every known box, bottle, and can on grocery store shelves with all manner of these substances- and it is nearly impossible to find packaged food without it. For me personally it took a lot of work and planning- but I lived a full seven years with no traces of these ingredients in my body. None, that is, except a piece of fruit twice a day. Interestingly, it also takes about seven years for all the cells in a human being to replace themselves- though I was not thinking of this at the time. These days I live mostly craving-free, possibly because all of my addicted cells have been replaced.

Most food addiction plans will tell you to stay away from all of those foods permanently. And I don’t disagree. Why play with fire after all? Although I will say that during the week of my dad’s death I lit the match a bit by eating some onion rings and some ketchup with sugar. In some ways I think it was a last feeble attempt to connect with my dad again. Still, I have had my days of intense cravings- and I don’t think I am any too smart to play around in that arena.

So where does that leave us, as masses of us still experience cravings that seem almost debilitating and as we step closer and closer to a slow, dehumanizing decline like the one my dad experienced. The first step is to learn about food addiction and how it operates, one person at a time. And we hope that the more people that learn about it, the more we will be able to find healthy, tasty, and non-addicting foods in the grocery store. Right now, it seems to be a bit of an uphill climb to find and eat non-addicting foods. But today I feel healthy, and vibrant, and fully alive- which is more than I can say for all of the years when I ate all that stuff. And I honor my dad’s love by not going down the road that he did. And my father was an amazingly loving man, so I am sure he would have wanted that for me.

The Best Anti Anxiety Medications

by Mike

Are you suffering from anxiety for long time? Is it making your daily activities difficult or impossible? Then you need anti anxiety medication.

For general anxiety, non-medication treatments and counseling are enough. But if your anxiety has become chronic and the diagnoses recommends medication, then you need anti anxiety medication.

Many people benefit from the use of anti anxiety medication. Surely it backs you up and provides instant relief. But, it’s not a permanent cure. Ultimately you have to discover the underlying cause and unfulfilled needs. Only then, you can heal your anxiety completely for ever.

However, let’s know some of the best anti anxiety medications…

Azaspirones

These are the effective medicines for Generalized Anxiety Disorder. They will take time for about two to four weeks to show their effect. But the best advantage with them is no severe side effects.

Benzodiazepines

Take these drugs if only you have panic attack disorder besides GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder). Benzodiazepines provide instant relief. But they also have side effects and make you dependent. Therefore, avoid them using for long-term.

Beta Blockers

Beta Blockers reduce anxiety symptoms such as palpitations, sweating and shaking etc. by controlling the adrenaline in your blood. At the same time, they also drop your blood pressure and slow down your heartbeat. So you need to consult your family doctor frequently.

Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs)

Now, many people are using these drugs. SSRIs are good medication for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), panic attack disorder and depression. The possible side effects are sexual difficulties, nausea and nervousness.

MonoAmine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs)

If you have a mix of anxiety and depression and failed to respond to some of the common drugs, these will help you. But the draw back with these drugs is they interact with many different foods and medications.

Along with anti anxiety medication, take Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) to treat the underlying cause of your anxiety. Then you will be perfectly all right.

Helpful Hints for Quitting Smoking and the Will to Live

by Lorelei F

I will break into this week’s helpful hints for quitting smoking by telling you about last week. Last week was one of my roughest weeks in that my father passed away quite unexpectedly. As I look back I can see the signs in that the last few years of his life were not very happy ones. He did not have much of a life, as all that he enjoyed had been taken away from him.

As I watched my dad in his last years I saw a weary, dreary life. Songs and jokes he had once loved to spout were gone from him. His ability to do skits and act in silly ways was no longer present. Even the food he had once greatly enjoyed had lost its flavor inside of his illnesses. He was, in short, deprived of all that he loved in life.

Now it may seem odd to talk about this in a blog entitled “Helpful Hints for Quitting Smoking.” So I will tell you that I consider this blog to be more along the lines of an inquiry- and I do not have all the answers.

Now one could argue that I am an expert on addictions, and why people do what they do, as they do it. And one could argue that I am an expert on how people can shift their behavior. But in the final analysis, neither I nor anyone else can have you quit smoking. It is only you who can do it.

So I mention this about my dad as an inquiry, and because I could see in those last days of his life that the heart and soul had gone out of him. There was nothing left for him to live for. And although he was clearly struggling about letting go of the people he loved, on some level I could see that he had a wish to go.

And if one has a wish or desire to go, or if one is unfulfilled and not living a life that is happy- Or, worse yet, if one is living in some terminal upset or pain, then all of the trying to quit smoking in the world will not make a difference. There will be present a sort of desire to go that will thwart your every attempt to stay here on this earth. And we all know that smoking has a very real possibility of taking your life in the not too distant future.

Now I certainly do not say that all people who smoke have a death wish. I know too much about the emotional and physical pull of an addiction to ever say something so simplistic. However if you do smoke and you want to quit, it would seem to be smart inquire into your will to live and your life circumstances. Because without a strong desire to stay on this planet, all of your efforts may be null and void.

My dad, before he became so desperately ill, had a strong love of life and a high level of happiness no matter what his situation was. You can have that too. You can begin to do this by being honest with yourself about the true state of your happiness and then taking the steps to live a life you love. This in turn will increase your will to live. As you do that you can also be using Hypnosis or Neuro-Linguistic Programming, or some other tool to help you to quit smoking. Taken together, I would see this as a good formula. Now living a life of happiness can seem to be a bit elusive. However, it is a subject I speak about in my other blogs, so visit them as well, and they should be a help.

Acne – Natural Cures

by Stewart M. Russell

Acne – it’s a bane of adolescence and beauty spoiler for the adults. Resulting from clogged skin pores, acne is considered to be a common medical condition. But, for someone who suffers from acne problems, it’s more than just a condition – it’s an embarrassment, annoyance and obstacle to their every day lives.

Besides spoiling the skin, acne can be an indication of more serious health issues. Regardless, many sufferers spend hundreds trying to find a permanent cure for acne. Acne can medically be categorised as congested pores, blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, cysts and pustules. Overactive oil glands are the main reason for acne.

The skin is protected by the oil glands, but there are times when the skin cells block the oil from being released to surface layers, which causes the oil to accumulate under the surface. This unreleased oil acts as a culture environment for the skin’s natural bacteria, which multiples and causes the surrounding skin to inflame. This is how acne occurs.

Contrary to popular belief, acne is not hereditary and nor is it caused by any food, dirt or sweat, stress, hormones or cosmetics. These are just myths and don’t play any direct role in causing acne. However, pressure from helmets, collars, straps etc, drugs containing bromides, iodides and steroids and exposure to certain industrial chemicals can cause or worsen acne. Some people have more oilier skins and it may be hormonal, but there are no real hard facts to prove it.

When should you start treating acne? There’s no ‘right’ time as such. Everyone gets some acne during their lifetime and treatment should be sought when it gets excessive. Excessive acne is when a sudden severe breakout happens or mild acne continues for a long period.

Curing acne naturally and permanently requires a few basic essential lifestyle changes. Remembering the three steps on how acne is caused, the most important thing is to start with eradicating them – unclog pores, destroy the bacteria and reduce oil build up.

Getting proper rest and eating a well balanced diet can go a long way to preventing acne. But everyone’s life is very busy these days and sometimes that is just not possible. There are some natural and easy ways to treat it that can permanently cure your acne.

Keeping the skin clean and the pores open is essential to clearing up your acne. As much as you may wish, there’s no magic pill to cure acne. Cleaning your skin every day and using a good exfoliant and moisturiser are the first steps to clearing up your skin. Consuming a healthy diet rich in green leafy vegetables is another step that will help you on your road to healthy skin. Antioxidants have been shown to boost your immune system, which will help fight the bacteria that are causing your acne. You should only eliminate the oils on your skin surface and not what’s there internally.
